This is what I am doing with my Compact Jr. A previous owner loaned the trailer to an uninitiated tower who traveled all day not knowing that the door had become unlatched and was flapping open and banging back there. The hinge flange was bent and one window pane was broken. I removed the door and took it to the
Lake Casitas Rally where
Lizbeth's husband Eric and I disassembled it. Once you unscrew the door from its hinges, there is a trick to the door’s disassembly procedure. We started by removing the window sash, then the side frames of the window, which are held in place by being pressed onto the edge of the door skin. Next you pull the aluminum skins of the door on each side, followed by unscrewing the top window frame from the side door frame, followed by pulling out the aluminum skins of the door toward the top, and repeating for the window frame and aluminum skins for the door toward the bottom. Once you are down to the outer door frame, the 4 pieces that make up the perimeter are assembled like regular window screens with “L” bracket inserts holding the frame channels together at the corners. Carefully tap the hinge side away from the rest of the door from the inside to separate it from other 3 sides, preserving the “L” bracket inserts. I can now put that channel piece in a vise to straighten the bending around the hinge area, and straighten the hinge itself in a vise as well. I’m going to reassemble the door with new solid skin with a cutout for a standard fixed glass RV door window.
