Question Decals "Trailer Name"

Hi there folks, I have a question for you all. Has anyone had their trailer name made into a decal to put on their trailer? I have a friend that can do it but unsure if I should.

Thanks,

Paul I haven't done it as I haven't come up with a name for the trailer but I have seen a number of trailers at fg meets with the name of the trailer in decals on the trailer itself (often the rock guard) or on the spare wheel cover.

Go for it - if you don't like it you can just peeled them off! -)

I just used generic reflective letters from Home Depot to put the name on the Bumper.

Scott, did you do a name or the Surf Side logo and do you have a picture of what yours looks like?

The "Skamp" is a neat font, Robert. Did you design that one or is it a "known" one?

It is a "pre-fab" font, but I spent some time redesigning the letter forms to fit my idea for the logo.

Thanks for the info, Robert. It makes me happy that there are people who (still) know and care about these details

I'm not Scott , but if you're interested in having a SurfSide logo, he has provided the artwork and explanation here: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...nna-34104.html

it's easy for a decal shop to make one based on the artwork.

also should note that vector art ( the file I built) can be sized as large as you want without any loss of quality. and I mean BILLBOARD if needed... and the vinyls these day are everything from chrome to any color you can think of. have fun!

I've wanted to design a wrap-around decal for the lower half of my
campster for a long time. Can I design the decal using Word and simply save the file as a pdf, then give the file to a decal company to have it made? I wonder how much this would cost or whether it would be too prohibitive. Thanks!

I made a decal for My Little Marshmallow "Puff" using Decalzone.com

I put the decal on the front and back of my Scamp over the windows.

A word generated PDF may not have enough resolution for what you want. However, you could generate the Word file and have your decal maker import that file into a proper vector program that would do the job. As to cost, my local decal guy charges about $20 for 14x14" of material. FYI.

My suggestion, is go ahead and create what you want in Word until you get the look you want. THEN take the PDF artwork AND the font you used to the sign shop (if it's a special non-standard font) and have the decal shop create the artwork in Illustrator if they'd rather do that than use your from Word PDF. You can create a Hi-Res PDF from Word if you set the distiller option correctly.

the answer to that is no. the machine that cuts the decal works with vector files only. if you're going to print the decal, it will have to be done in UV ink to resist fading.
