Do I need the cooktop fan?

Am doing some rewiring to better use the space over the sink and stove. While I am in here, can I remove the fan over the cooktop? It draws a lot of electricity.

I could use the space to hang pots while I am in camp.

I have a Maxi fan.

What do you think?

I yanked mine out and really like how it opens up the space.

No downside that I can see.

If you're going to cook in the trailer I would leave it, to get any odors, smoke, or grease vapors out right above the stove rather than pull them up to the roof vent. Just my opinion. Does your CT not have the cupboard liners? I just installed some 110 lights, one on each end of the cupboards, under cupboard outlets, and a 110 fuse panel in the bottom cupboard, bigger battery box, extra 12 volt lights, and removed the no good converter. We have ed's old camper and when we seen he had taken his out of his newer one and how nicely it opened up the area we really liked it. Of course the fact that ours didn't work to begin with sort of helped that decision along. I have heard people say that the fantastic fan is enough to exaust the fumes and smoke. I haven't had a chance to try things with out the vent but it sure looks better.

Think I a going to rip it!

I've changed all my lights to LEDs and love the extra light and low electricity usage. I also added two more 110 outlets next to my new table for when I have shore power.

I think mary and bob have it right if you're going to cook inside.
When we go RVing, we like to eat out or cook outside and that solves that problem

We only have the roof fan which seems powerful enough to remove any cooking odors very quickly. I assume your cooking fan is vented. What will you do with the vent hole? Fill it? Maybe you could put in a small window? Raz

If you cooking there very long, like breakfast for a small crowd, it can get warm standing there without the fan. If you fry greasy foods and you pull it out with the Fantastic fan, you'll pull the grease to that fan along with dust, not the best situation to clean. It turns in to something gummy that can jam up the fan unless kept clean. We don't do greasy but bacon seems to be a favorite to a lot of people!

Wow! I like the small window idea!

I'm thinking soup, vegies, tea and coffee. Think I'll have an outdoor BBQ for the smokey, greasy stuff.

Go for it rip it out. I have never had a stove fan and I do cook in the trailer - have a small window over the stove and the Fantastic Fan works well at venting while cooking. You can actually get easy pop out vent covers for the Fantastic Fan now, making cleaning easy. Perhaps Maxi Fan has the same? I don't do really greasy foods though - I buy the precooked bacon packages for the trailer.

If we cook it is usually outside on a Weber Smokey Joe grill. Inside soup, coffee ect. I agree with Cathy, if we fried food, a stove vent would be good to have. I don't know if it is still available but here is a thread where a member (David) is selling a small window from his scamp. Worth a look.

How about a compromise? No hood, but a fan: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ita-43869.html

and if your hood has a light, you may want to add one back.

I left the vent in my CT13, but replaced the old fan with a computer pancake fan that draws less than an amp.

Ours has a hood but no fan. Except for the light in it, it is only cosmetic. I'm for ripping the thing out. You can see the computer fan that I installed in the small window. Works well! I should dress it up one of these days.
P.S. Wifey says it stays!!!!!

If you are into recycling, I think I would like to add a vent/fan to our 13' Scamp : }

I was planning on doing that, but there is a lot of rust.

Rain or moisture from cooking has corroded a metal sheet near the fan and it showers rust over the cooktop. The fan is not strong and the light isn't currently working.

If you still think you may want it send me a private message with your email or phone number and we can talk.

Just FYI, you can buy these range vents for not a whole lot of $$.

Range Hood 115V Motor - $36.59
