Door problems? Here's what I'm trying

The door on my Amerigo is cracked in many places (hinges,handles,etc...) and delaminating at the seams. I had a shop quote $600-$1000 to repair the old door and I've been unable to find one used. Since much of the trailer has already had major modifications by previous owners I didn't feel too bad scrapping the old door. I decided to cut the door jamb and build a new door myself. Check back for more photos.

Photos attached show the old door, and the door jamb after I cut out the molded fiberglass, I had to trim the old jamb to make room for a new wood door frame.

Wow Cedar, looks like that door has been "bangin in the wind" for a while. I'm interested in how you rework it all. Keep us informed with pics.

Here are a few more pictures as I cut out the old jamb, I now have a flat surface to work with on either side, I think the wood frame that I build should make up for any strength lost when I cut out the molded fiberglass...fingers crossed it comes out alright

It seems like Amerigo went to the flat slab door around '76 or '77, I'm guessing fit and sealing issues of the fiberglass door prompted that change.
Here's a pic of the later year one (not mine).

You may be able to find a generic slab door from an RV supply store that's close in size & build a frame for it from aluminum angle, lightweight would be the main goal I'd think.

I know you can't save everything but I'd hang onto the hinges, door latch & window if you don't reuse them......I'm sure there's an Amerigo owner out there that can use them!

I fabricated thick sheet metal for my knob / lock area it's working great and I've also almost finished redoing the door
