Drip cap for Boler door - suggestions on how to install

I bought a replacement drip cap for the door of our 1974 boler from scamp trailers.

It's an aluminium model. It has holes so it can be rivered in place.

I'm unsure how to install it. Do I need some kind of backing tape behind it, or do I just rivet the thing right onto the fiberglass and run a bead of sealant around the top edge?

(ALso I was surprised at how thin the metal is on this thing. We're talking coke can thin. Are the original drip caps that thin?)

Yep Patrick, the aluminum is thin. That's okay tho... it only needs to carry the weight of a stream of water. These things have worked well for decades, just as designed.

I'd use butyl and rivets. Then use caulk on the rivet heads. You don't need to run a bead on the top edge if installed properly. But you could. Just be neat and DON'T use silicone!

Donna has it right, that's how I put mine on. But I did not have the insulation in yet so could get washer in behind the rivets.

It is probably made from recycled Coke cans. LOL

Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions on where to get good quality butyl tape in Canada?

Any glass place such as Speedy Auto Galls or the likes or RV Parts Dept. should carry it.
