Examples of interior LED lighting scheme — pics wanted!
I'm going crazy trying to find pictures of trailer interiors with their lights on. I would love to see examples of what people have done for lighting, so if you have any pictures, please post! LED lighting schemes are a bonus Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies! After looking at what users have done before and consulting local lighting shops, we ended up buying some really nice SORAA LED MR16 lights. We installed them in some (less expensive) track light fixtures and used them as up-lights. We spliced out the internal inverter in the fixtures and wired the MR16 lights straight to the 12V battery. For home applications, the MR16 fixtures have an inverter to convert the AC power to 12V DC for the bulb (which is why we chose this form factor). We also splurged and got the interchangeable magnetic light covers that change the diffusion angle of the LED. With the fixtures we bought, we have the option of turning the light down and using it as a spot-light for reading.
LED technology has really advanced since some of the previous threads listed, and our LED lights give off a beautiful warm, bright light.
We also got a inexpensive dimmer to put in to save some battery. Makes a humming noise form the PWM controller, which we believe is easy to fix, but we haven't done it yet.
Pictures below! I can take more close-up pictures if you're interested in the details of the install.

I didn't see this earlier, but IKEA has a number of LED strip lights that will run on 12VDC as well.

i saw on a tv show that bugs are not attracted to LED lighting, but haven't found any support for that claim. any opinions or support for that?

Ming, here's a shot inside my Burro. You can pretty much see all my lighting here. It's all LED: the disco strip down the middle (I have that on a dimmer switch that you can see above the front dinette & window), the over-dinette double light, the single light over the bed, and the under-cabinet light over the kitchen.

if you do a google on the topic you will find a lot of energy/lighting websites with info as to the reasons for it. One of the more popular explanations for it is
that insects are attracted to the ultraviolet rays (light with a wavelength of between 400 and 320 nanometers) emitted by conventional light sources. Most LEDs for general lighting usage emit almost no light in this range.

The problem is that the insects may not be attracted by LEDs, but they are attracted to the person sitting next to the light.
My trailer is LED and I recall leaning against the window screen and hearing what sounded to me like a potential electrical problem. It wasn't electrical, it was thousands of mosquitoes the other side of the screen.

I've been to places where the annoying little gnats were drawn to my LEDs at night.

Thanks for reading, Jack! It's been fun
Jen, I love what you did with the lights. I saw examples of this strip lighting before. We considered this design, but we didn't think we would enjoy looking up and seeing the LEDs directly, and also we weren't sure what we were going to do with the ceiling. Since we're camping in the winter, we hang out in the Burro in the dark a lot. We're loving daylight savings though!
No comment on the bugs and LEDs as we've been in snow or desert this entire trip

I made my own overhead "fixture"... a white ash frame with two rows of LEDs (switched independently for "hi" and "lo"). Works perfectly... we love it... eliminates the "hash" lighting from only having under-top-bins lights.

I've got an Escape 5er on order. I think I'm going to have to talk to Rob to make me one of these. I've been lusting for this mod since he first posted it: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...tml#post325237

Great blog, Ming, Jared and Argus!
You've both done so much work on the trailer, wow. Admireable!
Like how it turned out and also enjoyed your following your travels. Lots of good photos, too.
