I do not know how to answer your question really but I like the idea of foam underneath. How did it turn out?

Length wise, I wouldn't install Allure over foam.
It's a ridged floating floor.

Side to side, no foam. I have installed 3 of these floors, one lengthwise and 2 side to side. The side to side has less expansion cracks and looks better. You do not attach this floor to anything, it floats. On the sides you use molding that hide the spaces a log the edges that allow for expansion/contraction. A lot harder to do if you install lengthwise. In addition where there can not be molding, use color matching caulk. Here are some pictures of my installs.

a couple more, the first three are in a EggCamper, lengthwise, the next 2 pictures are in a Lance, crosswise, the last 2 in an Escape, lengthwise and crosswise, very complicated install that one with running it in both directions. Unless you are good with wood tools, crosswise is easiest and simplest.
