Flooring Allure

Hello

I am a new member. Well been on here a year but just getting time to work on our little egg some more and post stuff.

I installed some Allure flooring today. Got it real cheap at the big orange store. I like the colour, it's African wood.

It took me most of the day and just over a box of flooring as this was my first time installing any kind of flooring.

Here are some pictures;

Wow that looks great Brian. My fingers are itching to get started on new flooring for mine. When I bought the camper it had beeeautiful green indoor/outdoor carpet. Yuck..and to add insult to injury it doesn't sweep out well at all. I'm wondering if I'm the only camper that carries a hand held vacuum..I'd love to lose it. LOL

Now you've got me ready to get to the "big orange box store" LOL.

Did the Allure in the kitchen of the house-holding up very well. Planning to put it in my Scamp too. I Like the fact that it doesn't glue to the floor, and is waterproof(and can handle temperature swings too). Nice looking floor you did.

I put laminate down in my CT, and it was also just a tad over 1 box for a total cost of <$30, got mine on clearance at Sam's Club. Mine had the foam backing already on and the install took about the same amount of time, bout a half day.

Is the trim in the last picture sort of an angle aluminum? My camper has some pretty awful carpet in it and it looks like they used a piece of wood across the entire step down front..I'd like to change that...it doesn't look very nicely finished. I'd also like to be able to make a clean sweep from one level to the other.
Also..did you put trim along the sides of the floor where your dinette seating is? I just bought some of this flooring (Natural Oak)...and I assume that you'd have to or it could rise up as nothing is holding it to the floor?
It looks great!
Thanks, Denise

Looks really sharp! Some day, I hope we can add something like this to our UHaul, but right now, the carpet we have works fine, and yes, I carry a hand-held vacuum. I bought one to match the colors of our Uhaul.

Hi Denise

Yes the the top strip is new 3/4 x 3/4 angle aluminum only 1/16" thick. I screwed it on the horizontal into the wood sub-floor that is in my Boler.

There is Allure on the vertical.

I laid the table area first flooring first then left 1/4" around and back from the vertical step down. Then glued the Allure on the Vertical then slid a piece in under the counter and it didn't need glueing as it is held in place by the cabinet and trim. Then I laid the main floor again leaving 1/4" around which the old and new trim cover up nicely.

Re-using the old trim was an issue. As the Allure is floating floor, the old trim was held down with rivets through the subfloor and into the steel frame underneath.

So I inverted the trim and re-cut some angles and riveted the old trim to the sides which is steel. Its more work inverting with some angles not correct but the floor remains floating and at $10 for 4' of new Aluminum I went the frugal way.

Cheers

Thanks Brian! I can hardly wait to get started on mine. I just bought the Oak colored Allure, which should coordinate well with all of the wood trim inside (I hope). Your explanation is invaluable!
LOL..I'm a bit frugal myself..between being a Mainer (we're just naturally that way) and my Irish roots. No choice in the matter.

Thanks again, Denise

I like it! The wife and I just took a look on HD's website, and we really like the "barnwood" color. We've been talking about getting the carpet out of the Scamp. Now I know what to put in!

Hi Jean L

The Boler is a Canadian one. Made in Peace River AB on the tag. My father tells me it's a 72 but as I work on it many things have manufacturing dates from 1970.

New Allure Floor in my Egg

Brian you gave me the incentive to start in on my flooring renovation in my camper. I purchased the Oak Allure flooring. I was quite worried that perhaps the previous owner had glued down the green indoor/outdoor carpeting, which turned out not to be the case..thankfully.
However,..being that the camper is a 1973..I did find a really large, rather badly done patch job on the lower section of floor. They'd replaced a section with a piece of plywood that was too thick and left a trench about 1/8" to 1/4" surrounding the area they'd patched..which they'd tried to fill with what looked like drywall patch. Fortunately, it came up fairly easily.
My neighbor helped me put down a new base of luan plywood and the next day I was good to go with beginning with the new Allure floor. Next weekend I'll get around to trimming it out around the edges. And I guess I'm planning to caulk the area in front of the bathroom and door to the exterior, unless someone else has a different suggestion.
I love, love, love, how this looks! Next week I'm planning on painting the inside to freshen it up a bit.
Thanks for all of the incentive!

Thanks Brian, I'm no carpenter..and some of those little zigs and zags around the perimeter were tough to cut. LOL..I will no doubt learn alot with my new coping saw on how to install trim. But I'm game if nothing else.

Thanks again, De
