Furnace replacement
Finally gave up on the original gravity furnace and put an Atwood 18,000 btu furnace in. Great addition but sure draws the 12 volt solar system down so having to add more power there.
But I've torn out the old one and before I retire it to landfill, is it of any use to anyone out there. Pretty gnarly but parts may be useful to someone. Let me know and if no response in a couple weeks, out it goes. From a 1973 b1300.

Furnace
I'll take a picture later today. It's a WagonMaster and in pretty rough shape. Gravity and no air movement (problem #1) and I'm not sure the thermostat ever put out more than the pilot. Never have been able to find info or manual on a WagonMaster and people mostly laughed when I mentioned it.
The one I put in was 2" too long. We moved the water lines (and replaced and re-routed the line) and then put a 1" wood 'trim' out from the front. Fits fine now. Went for the 18,000 btu since the smaller one was the same price. I think Panther RV is having a sale now. I'll get a picture of that too. A bit noisy but very toasty. Depends on how cold you plan to camp...

Randy, I don't think a wagon master will be of any use to you.

furnace replacement and relocation
Hi David! How are u today? Wondering if you could suggest a replacement furnace for our 1973 Trillium 1300? Also-could the new furnace be moved to the space below the tall closet and if yes, what would be the process? Thanks for any help! You can e-mail me via abandc2@shaw.ca if that works better for you.

Replacement Furnace
Take a look at the Atwood from Panther RV. Small and will fit almost anywhere. 12k btu and 18k btu and both the same price. I've been using one to replace the old WagonMaster that came with the boler. Works really well.

Sorry, but the 1300's have the furnace in the kitchen because it did not fit under the closet. That is where the wheel well is.
Trillium did put a forced air furnace there in the 80's, but they shortened the closet to do it. Also, it stuck out. It looked kinda funny. Some say it looked pregnant. Another place they put a forced air furnace was in the dinette seat.

Do you have any idea how it would compare to a ProPex furnace?

furnace replacement
Thanks for the info. What is the fix for preventing a sleeping bag from catching fire if the furnace goes back under the sink? Is there some metal grate or ? that can be purchased or does a 12000-16000 btu unit just not get that hot to work about the potential fire hazard? This is all new to me so please excuse my ignorance.

Not ignorance. Surface temperature is the reason that gravity furnaces lost their CSA / UL approval. I assume that there were fires. But I have not read any actual accounts. I bet there were some melted sleeping bags though.
You could try a metal grate.

Furnaces
Not familiar with the ProPlex, but the Atwood is going just fine. I can imagine that the gravity fed might be hot and cause problems, but with the forced air I've never had it get hot enough to cause a problem. The previous owner used to put plywood between furnace and bed, but I've never had it get that hot with the forced air.
