I won't lie - I want to see the furnace install. We don't have one in the Egg and our Thanksgiving trip a couple years ago sealed the deal on getting one. Budget permitting, of course.

Sorry, the furnace was missing when we got the camper, and I don't see a need for one presently. I don 't see us doing any cold-weather boondocking, and a little disc furnace heater will warm that space if we're on the plug somewhere.
I'm one of those people that becomes a human furnace when i get horizontal anyway!

I ordered it from Joe at Trillium RV as you suggested. Not quite sure that it will arrive in time for my vacation, which starts in 9 days. If not, no worries. I'll just pop the old one back in with no butyl tape, maybe some foam weatherstrip? In five years going to Big Pine the same week, we've seen one real rain.

I honestly don't know. When he said he had one, refurbished, for a reasonable price, I jumped at it. I'll be happy either way so long as the Scalperator is gone.

Oh, sorry. I read your post too fast. I thought were sizing up to install a furnace. Just realized you were making use of the space where the furnace was/might have been.

With no furnace, that is a very useful storage space.

It is. We were using the space before for things like paper goods and plastic utensils- light stuff. Was too easy to lose things under fridge or dinette, and had no proper door.
I used plywood and screws to box it in, taking care to make no new holes in the fiberglass. The shelf/box enclosing the wheelwell is removable with 3 screws, to access wiring or plumbing behind.
Now we don't have to carry a plastic tote full of staples. I like it!

Fill it with Hot Pockets and it will serve dual-purpose.

You mean handwarmers, or those microwaveable pseudofood bombs?

Either would work and taste just as good.

Well, we made the annual vacation with an aluminum panel covering the gaping AC scar. Since there wasn't a drop of rain, and it was sleepin' nekkid weather, I never gave it a thought!
The window arrived at the shop while we were gone, I'll get it put in after Green Eggs and Ham is over.

Along with the other jobs, i want to build myself a stock-appearing rock guard for the front window. Can someone (ahem, David) post detailed pics of hinges and latches etc?

I will make detailed measurements tonight.
I would be very interested in what you come up with Glenn. I would like to put a rock guard on the back window. This would help keep it clean. Also there are those who also need a rock guard.

Thanks!
I'd really like a factory one, but what are the chances of that? What's on it now is just a sheet of aluminum, painted satin black. On our recent trip one of the brackets that hold it down failed and it flapped against the window for many miles.
I've thought long and hard about the new style rounded one, but stylistically it just doesn't turn me on.
What that leaves is fabricating a replica. Seems to me that everything except the louver/corrugated panels is easy. I think I'll use corrugated-core aluminum for those anyway. The questions I have are:
What is the frame extrusion profile?(channel? Angle?)
Are the joints welded or riveted?
Piano hinge?(that's what I have on it now)
What kind of hardware holds it open/closed?

There are two major styles. The first one was wider on the sides and the middle piece was the smallest piece:
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...tml#post379897
Then around 1973 they went with this style:
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...tml#post383821
The later style supports having the logo on the rock guard. I am assuming that it is the later one you want.
There is a telescoping support that uses a thumb screw to hold the guard in place. This also changed in 1973. The old style used an aluminum square tube inside another square tube. The newer ones use a C channel, I think. I will post pictures of both.
The joints are neither welded, or riveted. They used a crimp to hold it together.
I will have to check on the hinge.

Yes, I think the equal thirds with center logo is the ticket.
Browsing around and saw this:

Says they'll do custom square corners.
