GA: Trillium 1300 DE-alteration

Well, not yet. Last night I only got the edge pieces done. I used a chip brush for the cement.
The roller you see is a flooring roller, for bonding Allure and the like. I couldn't find any laminate roller at big orange. The instructions said use a "J-roller"? It seems fairly important to roll it down while applying pressure, so I bought the darn thing. Like I needed another weird tool...

Not really. I browsed pictures in the gallery, but ended up just fabbing my own mounts and running new copper lines.
The tank mount, regulator, hoses are readily available and not brand-specific.

Trillium folks: i have a question about kitchen support. Was there an original post or something to brace the upper cabinets? Mine are kinda saggy.

As part of my ongoing interior project, I intend to add some shelving in the front roadside corner. ( to the right of the galley as viewed from the door) I built the dinette intentionally offset, so there's a little extra room. Along with that, I'll do an overhead shelf similar to the optional OE one that goes across the top of the window. I'm thinking about how to incorporate some roof support.

Glenn, the one I worked on had a very saggy roof over the dinette. In fact that whole wall had settled a bit. Without lots of trouble and effort, and possibly no good resultant, I decided to leave the lower part as is because it looked fine for the most part anyway, and just raise the upper part of the dinette cupboards and roof a couple inches.

I braced from the frame up to the cabinets, slowly lifting them over a couple weeks. I then had supports manufactured that sat on the frame, and supported the roof. I am very confident there will be no more movement in the future.

I know you all have seen this before, but here is the end result of what I came up with.



Here is where it attached to the lower part of the dinette.



At that point I bolted through the fibreglass wall on the dinette directly to another support that sits directly on the frame. This support is hidden inside the dinette shell.



Here is what I did at the ceiling to spread the support out a ways. This support is connected to the upper cabinets for stability. This support holds both the moulding of the cabinets, as well as the roof.

I had not seen that, thanks for the pictures. As a related question- the countertop is way out of level front-to-back. I guess that's normal?

I plan to do a new countertop on top of the existing to eliminate this slope.

That's my intention as well. The rear dinette table is just plain gone, and since I had to buy a 4x8 sheet of laminate I'll make all three surfaces match.
About the roof support-i'm thinking of a plywood partition at the ends of the galley with a curved cutout. Think C-cab truck.

No idea what a C-cab truck is. I think I do know what you mean though, and that is what Escape does on one end of their galley, like in this photo. The one issue you would have is that the upper cabinets in the Trillium are a bit narrower than the lower. Also, where would the support be at the bottom, as you really could not run it right down to the floor. Maybe I am missing something.

Yes, much like that picture! Support would come from the panel resting on the seat/gaucho and fastened to the side of the lower cabinet. The corner of that cabinet rests on the frame.

The problem I see with this plan, is that the dinette seat and the galley side are flexible and not strong. You may be able to lift the roof and upper cabinets right away, but in time the whole thing will begin to settle again. This is why I took the roof support down to the frame, there will be zero chance of settling now.

Doing the method I did will be way easier as well. It took me longer to figure out what I was going to do, and do up drawing for the metal shop, than it did to do the work. An hour or so painting, and a couple hours to install.... done.

I will be writing up a post on my thread about how I did it. Here is the drawing I came up with to give to the shop to build the supports. Note the 5/8" offset on each side from the lower to upper galley cabinets.

I think that the right angle at the corner of the lower galley IS vertically strong, much like the closet across the dance floor.
I want the support to look sorta organic-integral to the funky '70s lines of the camper.

It sounds like the trailer I am working on is a bit worse then, as the lower part of the galley leans back a wee bit, and the top is out of level as mentioned. Putting weight on it would only worsen it.

No matter how you bridge from the uppers to the lowers, you could still do an inside lower support down to the frame to ensure no future movement. Myself, I would hate to go to all the trouble I did, just to see further setting in the future. That fibreglass galley is very thing, maybe 1/16".

Anyway, just my thoughts on it after talking it over with a few people, including my brother who is an aeronutical engineer. And maybe a cocktail too!

I want to add compartment doors for access from outside to the area under the rear dinette benches.

Can anyone recommend a size/brand/ type? There is more variety available than I had thought. Plastic? Aluminum?
