Gas heater location on Trillium 1300

My Trillium's gas heater/furnace is located under the dinette seat on the curb side. Most other Trillium's I have seen have the heater on the road side under the sink. Does anyone know why they had two locations?

What year is your Trillium? Pictures would help.

Our heater is located below the large cupboard next to the door. We have a 1978 4500 Trillium.

Ours is a 1973 model. I'm sure it came from the factory that way because as you can see on the second picture, there is no exhaust vent under the sink.

Hmmm... If it were a 1979 on, I would have said that the factory was forced to abandon the gravity furnaces due to changes in CSA surface temperature requirements. Since it is a 1973, this can't be the reason. The location of your furnace is where some of the forced air furnaces were installed, by the factory. I suspect that the orignal owner just wanted more heat then the gravity furnaces could supply. He probably had this done as a custom option. Trillium did several custom jobs.

BTW the fact that there is no vent for a gravity furnace is not uncommon. If the factory furnace was not selected, then no vent. It is possible that your forced air furnace is an aftermarket modification.

It looks good though. What is the manufacture, and model number of your furnace?

David, thank you for your comments.
The furnace is the Duo-Therm 66000 series.
Since I'm putting in the Queen bed, I'm thinking of moving the furnace to the standard location under the sink. I was thinking about air flow in and out of its current location and fabricating in and out channels and an auxiliary fan, but moving it to under the sink would bring it out from under the bed. It would give me that chamber under the dinette back and the current exhaust hole would be expanded to a hatch so I could access the chamber from the outside.

The problem with your plan is that the depth of the kitchen cupboard is about 3" less then the dinette seat. That is why, when Trillium went to the forced air furnace in the 1300's, they made an extension to the closet, (which made it look pregnant) to accommodate the extra depth.

moving the heater

Doug I'm wondering how you made out moving your heater. I too would like to take my fan forced heater from under the bed as it is a pain to get at. I was thinking of either under the closet (above the wheel well) or in the storage at the front (by the door).
However I have been unable to pull the heater out away from the wall vent. It seems to slide a little but won't come any further. Any tips?

Phil

Hey Phil
I'm not sure we have the same model, do you have a model number? Mine is a Duo Therm 66000. However everyone seems to have difficulty removing the stack. There are 2 coaxial stacks as it is inlet and outlet for combustion and the inner stack tends to rust up. Perhaps bigger hammer. I did not move mine and just tried to light it and it would not light. I am planning to remove mine in the next week or two to check the sail switch. I'll let you know what happens.
