My head hurts, I about knocked myself out a few min ago, anyone know how to mod the head room in a 16ft Scamp, or do I have to shave my feet, or maybe wear slippers as soon as I get in the door, but then I hit my head on the door frame....lol

Easy Fix.... You separate the upper and lower shells at the belt line with a circular saw, including cutting through the door. and Lift the uppershell. Next put a stack of about three 2x4's on edge all the way around the edge and then glue everything back together again and paint the new band bright orange.

Or you can consider getting your legs sectioned about 6", or you could put knee pads on and never stand up in the trailer.

Another yet untried idea from an unnamed Slavic country would be to let air out of the tires to lower the floor.

If headroom is an issue - is the bed tall enough?

Anyway - is the main part of the Scamp floor lowered the same way it is in the old Bolers? Seems to me that the most direct way to address the issue would be to remove the drop floor - modify the frame to move the floor support rails lower by a few inches and then reinstall a floor and finish it off. This might not require frame modifications if you're willing to have a slightly taller perimeter around the edge of the floor.

Downside - reduced ground clearance. Probably doesn't matter if it's all above the axle and/or if the clearance is already generous.

Many new Scamp owners have found that the small modification of hanging a rubber ducky from the top of the door is a very helpful feature in avoiding future head banging. :-)

I'll go with duck, I did see in another post where someone put string on the doors to remind them to duck when going through them, think I'll do that. And "DUCK".

Talk about letting the Scamp go to your head!

Hang some of this garland from the top of your doorway. It's colorful and eye catching.

You have to genuflect to the trailer god during each entry and exit.

My Fiber Stream has a door that is shorter than Scamps. Here's my solution:



Sew up a sleeve of curtain fabric, slide it over a piece of Pool Noodle, Slide the covered pool noodle over a dowel rod, mount the assembly in front of the top edge of the door.

The doorway on a Compact Junior has got to require more ducking than a Scamp.

After several clonks on the noggin I put up this device.

It's just an orange swim noodle cut to size.

I ran a length of braided nylon rope through the tube and screwed the nylon rope to the frame of the doorway.

Makes a nice cushion for the head.

Yup the Swim noodle is another great idea. Then again its a good bet that by the time you go to the trouble of mounting something up there to protect/remind yourself, your head has probable already had the notion embedded into it from previous knocks thats its a good idea to DUCK! and you will never bang your head again with or without the protective device!

I bought a new 4DR Ford Tempo in 1984. It had two vexing flaws which I felt were insurmountable.
1] I struck my spine on the B pillar every time I entered the driver's seat.
2] I had to twist my wrist in an unnatural way to shift into 5th gear.
After a few days, the problems faded into obscurity. I learned a couple of new moves which "habituated" me to the new car, and ten years later I was saddened to lose it to a teen driver oblivious to a stop sign.
I am six feet tall and have owned a (prefire) 2004 Scamp13 since new. In addition to the shorter interior height, it has A/C with a heatstrip.
Nobody yet makes a trailer for which I would be willing to trade it.
Like no-line bifocals, hard hats, or two wheeled bicycles, once you learn to deal with them they have advantages and the difficulties soon go unnoticed.

I feel your pain. Coming from a 36' three slide with room the size of a small apartment, to our little Scamp; it takes some getting use to. I've laid myself out a couple of times too. After a while, we'll learn or just get dull to the pain. LOL
