Help I'm new here

I have a 1979 trillium that I'm restoring
I sanded the interior fiberglass and I'm just wondering if you use interior or exterior primer and paint

Donna, on exterior FG surface usually marine primer/paint combination is used such as Interlux Brightsides or Rustoleum Marine Topside. You might want to use something tougher on cabinets. You could try searching threads.

EDIT: Use only paints intended for use on fiberglass.

Hi. As both John & Mike stated above, that's correct, use a primer that is designed for fiberglass. Some auto paints are OK for fiberglass, just be sure that's what you're getting.

WE used: Rustoleum Marine primer (white) and Rustoleum Marine Topside paint (white). Both in quarts. Brightside (Interlux) Marine paints are even better--not available close to us and pricier. WE also used Kilz enamel primer in some areas, such as over the area where the battery had been years ago. We super-sealed that section! But our trailer has a wooden panel interior so we didn't do a top coat inside.

Marine paints don't offer many colors--but you CAN mix them with each other.

We decided to just use a lot of white.

We used enamel paints on the wooden cabinets. I really like the muted sheen of the Rustoleum marine enamel (white). We considered trying for high shine but decided this was more to our taste. We used a foam hot-dog roller (the little kind with the closed end) and Paul rolled for all he was worth and got all the bubbles out with just the roller--it self-levelled by the time it was dry, very nice paint...we didn't spray and we didn't "tip." (Tipping--after you roll the paint, you gently brush over with a dry brush to break all the little bubbles--Paul had no "tip touch" and it was just a better procedure for him to merely roll with serious intent).

Congrats on your new egg!

Although it may seem like a lot of work, do try to enjoy this time of restoration...you'll enjoy your work for many years to come! This is your big chance to make it the way you want it as much as possible.

(See the thread here, Fear of Fiberglassing for our restoration if you have any interest in it--we did do a lot of painting inside, all cabinets and the support walls, which in ours now are made of 1/2" plywood. Photos--).

Trilliums are good trailers. Love the windows.
We do also love pics here, if you can and will.

BEST
Kai

Hi, Donna,

Fast work!

You can't go wrong with all white.

But I always love the look of a white upper half and a nice color lower half, like a not-too dark blue--if you go online and look at the RELIC trailers, they show you some classic white/color combos on eggs designed to look even older than ours.

It's a fun site and gave us a few ideas we used in ours in 2015.

Happy painting! It's the fastest, best way to upgrade, repair, preserve, and give it your own flair.

Whatever color/s you choose, don't forget ebay for an assortment of decals! Automotive decals work fine on these trailers. You can also find videos on YouTube for how to apply them, even very long stripes.

We found a "racing stripe" company on eBay that will embed a word in the stripe--that's where we put the amerigo logo...many offer to custom make anything you can e-mail them in terms of logos and whatnot.

PS there are also threads here on FGRV with lots of pics of different decor for the outside of these eggs (and inside, for that matter).

Hi, sorry! Wow, I sure missed that!

Better slow down next time, maybe I'll get it then.
