Thanks for the kind words on the van Tim.
Dodge Sprinter interior?
LOL. Ummmm. No. ; )
I luv my EggMcFamily...but not that much.
The van DIY interior was a PITButt.
My tip to anyone with hair (read ladies) wear a shower cap while spraying 3M77. Us shaved head guys can just scrape of the goo.

I didn't know that (either fact! )
What does Escape put on the walls of the trailers?
Per Reflectix r-value:
I installed this in my outside-access compartments to insulate them from the interior. Instructions say that best r-value is achieved with an air gap of at least 1/8 in. Not easy to achieve on interior walls, I'd guess.

And that airspace suggestion was why cari & i put a layer of the mailing bubble wrap (the large bubbles...maybe 1/2"??) between two layers of reflectix. It makes the wall nice and soft-spongy to the touch. Nice if you are throwing camping gear against the wall, no scratches or tears to this point (2+ seasons in the van).

Thom, I use to have a nice conversion van a few years ago and really loved it. We spent two months in it traveling to Alaska and back. I always thought it would be nice to take a Sprinter and make a nice camper van out of it. You get nice height, and great mileage with it. If I didn't do that I would just get another conversion van.

my wife and i are so with you on the idea of Sprinters making nice camping vans. We drove to Portland from the coast (~100 miles) to the Freightliner dealer and drove the LWB SB. Lots of room in there! The only thing that finally stopped us is they were the closest place for any service work.
This is a shot of one of the Sprinters done by the sister company that did ours. Both in Portland. Beautiful workmanship!

Now that's what I'm talking about. Another drawback is of coarse the price. That's why I would have to get a used one and probably do the conversion myself.

I'm still wondering what Escape puts on its walls- if not the same "rat fur/hulliner/headliner" that practically everyone else is using, then what????

It's sorta like getting asked by your wife if she looks fat in those jeans. You know, whatever your response, you're gonna get one in the face.

Newsflash!
I looked at the Escape specs, and it turns out that the wallcovering is "insulated vinyl ".
Sounds washable- I like it!
I'm surprised nobody else knew that, though...

Actually I suspect a lot of folks did they just thought perhaps you were trying to be funny and trying to give Escapes covering a nick name.
Back to your original question as to what is the difference between Scamps "rat fur" wall covering and marine headliner - absolutely nothing! When I talked to scamp a few years ago on the topic (looking to order a small amount) I was told it was marine grade head liner.

Really?
How very peculiar...not sure what part of my "what does Escape put on the walls if not hulliner/headliner/rat fur" would give anyone that impression.
Onward through the fog!

OK, sooooo, i'm a complete NOB here at FBRV forum even though i've lurked here for quite some time (read years). . . so I'm not familiar with the different personalities. But i actually thought you were throwing out some humor asking the question.
Sent with an EggMcFamily Hug,

This thread has really got my brain wheels turning. (A dangerous thing!)
I ordered some samples of the hull liner from "SAILRITE" when this thread first started and I received them today. This material seems really good, not too hard to work with and it does stretch but doesn't stretch back. Looks like it would form well around corners and a butt seam would really be hard to detect. The pictures that Thom posted about what he did to his van were awesome!
That being said, the ensolite in my Trillium has come lose in several places, has been painted very poorly by a PO and the plastic seam strips were really yellowed, cracked, missing, damaged and I removed the remainder and threw them away.
I am really seriously considering reattaching the ensolite, gluing reflectix on top of that, taping the seams and gluing hull liner in the "sand" color on top off that.
It would keep me from buying new seam strip, painting the ensolite and plus the added thickness would give me a lot more R value.
Am I completely insane or do all y'all think it would work?
Like I really need to ask with this group, but, any and all comments about my scheme would be greatly appreciated.
Spanke

how cari & i worked with the reflectix in our van...
When it came to seams on the 24" or 48" wide rolls of reflectix (we used both) we then taped the seams with these two types of tape. I don't really remember how or why we got on to them but i'm thinking it was from a DIY project over at Expedition Portal(?).
3M 433 Aluminum Foil Tape
(very strong adhesion, but tears easily)
Mylar Tape
(very strong adhesion and will stretch quite a bit before tearing)
The idea is you are looking for a tape that has an adhesive which will withstand the temperature fluctuations that might happen when insulating a van/rv/trailer etc.

We're here, just slow!
It appears to be a sandwich of vinyl over thin urethane foam over reflectix - at least in mine, but I have their 2009 winterized model, so I am not sure how that compares with current production.
Regards,
Matt
