Cool I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...

At most places we go to gather with other Fiberglass Trailerites, I like to decorate the outside like it's Party Time!
It mostly means putting out the awning and hanging the decorations from that.

Since the 1st of the year we have camped at Quartzsite and Temecula.
Both locations are Desert areas that have a lot of WIND (hence my title).
The wind keeps me from putting out the awning, so I don't have anything to hang my decorations from.

My next trip will be to http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ing-50105.html, another windy venue, but I want to get into the party mood and decorations are called for! (along with 6 bottles of white wine)

I bought a 10' "stick" of 1" diameter schedule 40 PVC irrigation pipe, because my awning is 10' long. Drilled 1/4" holes about 3" in from each end and tied boot laces through the holes.

Then I ran the tube through my table saw to cut a groove in it just like the trak in the roll-up awning tube.
I've zip-tied my strings of lights to trak hangars. I slide the hangars into the groove in the schedule 40 pipe.

Then I lay the pipe on top of the closed awning so the lights hang in front of the rolled-up fabric up out of the way of the entry door...

...and tie the boot laces to the mounting bracket that attaches the top of the awning legs to the trailer.

Very clever! How did you keep the pvc from rolling while cutting it on the table saw?

I had help... It was too long for me to do by myself so my partner Robert held one end. I set the "Fence" guide on the table saw to the radius of the pipe and held it against the fence as I fed it thru. When it was 1/2 way thru I stopped so Robert could go to the other end and hold as I fed the last part thru.

Now I will have a 10' pole with me so I can "touch that with a 10' pole..."

lights

We have a feed through awning as in the attached picture, and when it is too windy we have feed the wire of our lights through the awning rail. Works too

Neat idea, its so fun to have lights and you now have them even if the awning is not in use. Cool!
