Installing Maxx Air Fan Mate 850 Vent Cover Over Fantastic Fan

Hi Everybody,
I'm just wondering if any of you who may have installed a Vent Cover over your fantastic fan on the roof could help? I'm thinking about putting a Maxx Air 850 vent cover on so that rain doesn't come through my fantastic fan inside. My question is: when installing the vent cover, can a person put his weight on the roof of the Scamp? I will shortly be the owner of a standard 13 foot model.
The video I saw of the install looks relatively easy, but the "video guy" did the install on a table at arms height, just for demonstration purposes only. I have an 8 foot step ladder, but can't see how I would do the install without being on top of the roof. Are Scamp roofs "walkable?"
Thank you for your help, and I would really appreciate hearing from owners who have done this install/mod.

I don't think you want to put full weight on the roof. But it's pretty easy to reach the vent area from a ladder leaning against the side. Also you can work from inside the trailer, standing right under the vent (a step stool may help).

Wendy I seem to recall that not all cover makes work correctly with all brands of fans. Cant recall where I read that but it might be something to check. Fantastic Fan makes their own covers called a Ultra Breeze cover.

Depending on where your fan is located you may be able to stand up through the larger Scamp escape hatch to do the cover install - I actually did that to install the fantasitc fan itself which is located over the rear table/bed area.

As an FYI, i instatlled a camco Aeroflo vent cover on the original Fantastic Fan on our Van conversion before i replaced it all with a MaxxFan 5100K. The Aeroflo is now covering one of the Fantastic Fans on our Mobile Suite 5th wheel. I actually like the vent design better than the others i saw because it is made in such a way that you mount a lower half to the fan-frame then the top half hinges closed. This way you can get to the fan if you need to clean or service it by easily unscrewing two nuts and hinging the top open. It works perfectly with the Fantastic Fan and we can open the vent in full on rain and all works as designed.

Wendy you could buy a MaxFan model 5100 comes with a cover built into the unit.

When I installed my Fantastic fan I would not put my full weight on the roof. I backed my Bronco with the tailgate down right next to my Scamp as a mobile scaffold. Gave me a good wide solid base to work from. warning not OSHA approved. You could rent a scaffold at the box hardware stores. I would not recoment putting up a ladder and leaning out to install the cover. Your leverage point on the ladder will be pretty precarious.

Hi JWC, you are able to open up the stock FF lid nearly the full height...and certainly enough to have full use of its ventilation/design. And close things up tight again if desired on the FF.

I mentioned the hinged design of the Aeroflo only because when detailing a rig during the dry months it might be nice to clean out every crack & crevice up on a roof : )

===And YES! on what Chuck said. And really? the MF5100K is quite affordable and easily more elegant in form/function than a cover over a FF. And it is an easy drop in swap after you remove the FF.
