Instant-On Hot Water At The Tap

My shower is right next to my hot water heater so it provides instant hot water once the tank is warm.

My galley sink is wasteful of water because it takes a while for the hot water to displace all the cool water in the long run if tubing.

I was thinking about getting another pump and a few check valves and making a loop on a timer to run the hot water around for 30-40 seconds before turning on the faucet, that way I don't waste clean water and fill up my too small grey water tank too quickly. I could insulate the lines while I was at it.

Has anyone else done this?

No, but it's done in homes and businesses, I see no reason why you couldn't apply it.

I have done exactly that on my home plumbing. Pump is set on a timer and circulates the hot water during the morning and evening when we are using it. It is wonderful having instant hot water.

I think is would work great in your RV. I don't even know if I would bother with a timer, just us a momentary push switch and hold it on for 20-30 seconds.

One thing I have read recently on this issue was using smaller lines on the distant fixtures. There is a lot less water to get rid of in say a 1/2" line than a 3/4". You might be able to go as small as 3/8" serving just a RV sink.

Well I will probably do this but I am buried in boat work just now. I may incorporate that into my boat plumbing first. We had five data of nice weather here and I made the most of it.
