"Land yacht" portholes

I finally washed and waxed my 1972 Tote N Tarry, and thought it worthy of a few photos of the portholes we installed a couple of years ago. I bought them on eBay, they're high quality made in Italy, and were very easy to install. I especially like it in the evenings when they're lighted from inside. It looks like a little UFO has landed in our carport!

Ha, we thought about putting eyelashes on it, but it's a boy trailer! That poor trailer has been through Mexico and Alaska before we retired it to the carport. Right now we use it for storage, but as soon as we get the running lights updated and put some new tires on it, it'll be roadworthy once again. I promise to post photos of the interior once we get it cleaned up a bit!

I'd love to see more pictures.
From a historical perspective, anything that ID's the trailer such as more manufacturing tags with date of manufacture etc.
This may sound strange, but I'd like to see a picture of the streetside wheel well from the inside. I'm trying to link the Tote n'Tarry to the ill fated boler American.

Roy, I'll see if I can photograph any more ID tags. Luckily none were removed or painted over. Hmmm, not sure what you mean about the wheel well photo though. Do you mean with the wheel removed? I'm not sure if any Tote n Tarrys are left besides mine. I did find the original sales brochure, but have it filed somewhere. It was sold in the San Diego are by the now defunct Renault dealership. I guess the Renults and trailers made a nice combo back then! I once owned a DeLorean, and now own an 1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati, so I like ill fated American products We've sure had our share!

Filbert, I'm looking to see if it has a "notch" or inset on the streetside wheel well. You can see it from the cupboard under the sink. On this picture it almost looks like a beam of light.


The notch was typical of the boler American molds. It gave a little more clearance for the gravity furnace.

Yes, that was it. I don't see the notch for the furnace.

There are 2 interesting things I see from your pictures. You have the same electrical cord "Air Tex Corp" from Dallas TX. Plus your serial # starts off with a 7. The Boler American all started with either a 1, 3, or 5. But your Tote n'Tarry was certified, I've never seen a boler American that was. I wonder if that has anything to do with being made in California.

Was there anything that might show when it was made?

The only date I could find was on the Tote n' Tarry label that just says 1972. I think dad bought it in 1976 or so, because we took it to Alaska in 1978 where it took a beating on the Yukon Hwy. The tongue snapped in half, but dad had it welded with a splice. A couple of young Canadian guys from Whitehorse came to visit us one time, and painted the trailer for my dad as a thank you! The paint has held up pretty well I think And being made in California, I guess they didn't think a furnace was necessary!

I hope you find the sales brochure, I'd be interested in confirming when it was made. You initially posted it as being a 1973 when you first joined.

It is interesting to note that you have the same side marker lights and reflectors as used on the boler American. Plus your kitchen light is the same fixture used on the sides of the boler American upper cabinet.
