I do use the double lamp fixture where I plan to read.
You can't beat 96 white LEDS for reading.

I love books too, however I use an e-reader.. you can read in pitch black if you want with the inverted color (aka night mode)..

That being said, you can't use an ereader for playing cards or scrabble.
