Lifted Scamp
As with most older Scamps, the torsion axle was worn out leaving the trailer practically on the ground. For us here at Team 3Up, this was not a workable situation as we love to take the road less traveled. Fortunately, Forrest was very confident that he could make this a 4x4 Scamp.
We purchased a 2000 pound leaf spring axle assembly, found matching Jeep wheels in Phoenix, and Forrest drew up his plans. The result is really quite amazing: the Scamp sits about a foot higher and tows along behind the Jeep like a dream (more on our shake down trip of the Scamp this afternoon).
Without further ado, 3Up Adventures' lifted Scamp:

That looks great, same size wheels = more spares. What type axle or lift? what is your measurement from ground to the bottom lip of the trialer? good job Rob

I'll have to remember to take a measurement of the trailer lip to the ground sometime today. It's a pretty generous step.
The axle is just a 2000 lb leaf spring set up (spring under). There is no "lift." We're running matching wheels to our Jeep (Cherokee "Ecos") with I *believe* 215s.

I'm usually not a fan of jacking up trailers, but in this case it seems appropriate for the application.

Is this a straight (no drop) axle?
The Scamp frame has a dropped floor section and door opening in it. Are the spring and shackle mounts directly attached to the main frame, or is at least the front end bracketed down to accommodate frame features, or to get the axle tube under the floor? Photos would be interesting...

My guess is that means something like 215/75R15 tires on the Scamp... but does the Jeep have larger tires? My guess is yes, significantly.

I love it --- very nice!
I notice you are hauling a little dual sport (KTM?). Do you mind sharing how you mounted up the carrier?

It is a straight axle. It is mounted at the level of the dropped frame with extra steel welded into the rear to make it level.
The jeep runs 31s. The Scamp is on 205/75R15...we started with 235s and decided to come down a bit in size.

We don't actually haul the KTM.
Forrest got the hitch all fabricated and only to find out that the frame was flexing under the load when it was bounced. :-/

Perhaps just as well: it would be a stability problem.

31x10.5R15 is 31" overall diameter (the size of a 275/75R15)... wouldn't fit the Scamp! 205/75R15 seems like a reasonable choice (about 27" overall)

Too cool! I too have 205/75 R15s on my Scamp with matching wheels to my (soon to be tug). But, I had a torsion axle put on with a 45 degree down Dexter axle. I wanted the 10" brakes. Mine too looks like a four-wheel drive model, but now I have a real step!

Please repost this reply in 24 pt type the next time that the question of hanging stuff off the back of an Egg comes up. Real experience trumps O-T-B thinkers/guessers every time.
Thx....

When I changed my axle 3 years ago, it did raise our Boler by 6 inches. It's fitting nicely our new Jeep Wrangler (got it last week).
You can see here how much it did raise it: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...tml#post209498
