Probably not adequate for audiophiles but adequate for ears in their 72nd year.

This is the cheap amp I bought. I hooked it up to the mid-range and tweeter portion of my broken Harmon Kardon Soundstik II powered speakers. I may try to find a better amp for the woofer.
This amp would cut out after 1/2 volume was reached but did what I wanted it to do, provide adequate sound with a 1st gen iPad as the source. The internal speakers of the iPad were difficult to hear.
I was using a lame looking power brick. It might do better hooked up to a 12V source that can provide more current.

I can verify that. It is Bluetooth and can be placed anywhere. When I'm at home, I use mine in the garage.

This might not fit your needs, but I got a little Bose bluetooth speaker that sounds gorgeous. It can be plugged into AC or runs off rechargeable battery. It's got a great sound for our 13' Trillium, and I do consider myself kind of an audiophile. It's easy to bluetooth from your iPhone, and can go outdoors. Consider this baby:

I have used such speakers for years with an iPod and it is WAY easy. We use em inside and out, since 12V is easy to tap into on an old trailer.

I second this choice. Several options out there in 12v computer speaker systems and bluetooth receivers are relatively inexpensive.

I have a couple of bluetooth speakers called UE Roll. They are designed for using them on the go. They have a little bungie strap attached that allows you to hank them anywhere or even strap to something like a bicycle handlebar. I hang them on hooks in my trailer or sometimes take them outside the trailer or even use them in my car. I currently have them hanging from nails in my shop. I play music or books on tape from my iphone or ipad. They sound pretty good. If you buy two UR Rolls, you can use a downloaded app that will pair them up for stereo sound.

I love my portable JBL Charge3. Great sound. I use it with my laptop, my iPad, my Android phone and my TV. Will take it in the RV instead of having to buy more stuff. However, some of the above mods look sweet!

I have the JBL and sounds good to my ear, but the people at The Wirecutter rate the UE bluetooth speaker as best.

I have a Sony SRS-X55 powered BT speaker that sounds very nice at modest volume levels as long as its on a solid surface, like the kitchen counter, or a picnic table, and it runs for many hours on a charge. has line input as well as bluetooth.

I have the UE Boom 2 which when used inside, or when sitting near us outside, 1/4 volume is fine, but when set in the middle of a group camp, full volume is needed, though still sounds great. Full volume does reduce the battery life quite a bit, but easy to recharge from the trailer batteries.
