Making A Casita KING 13 Deluxe

We bought a used 2001 Casita Patriot Deluxe to pull with or SSR so could leave town and not have to come back the same day. Motels don't like dogs and we don't like motels.

Here's the story, we have a 2004 17' Casita Liberty Deluxe. The one with the King size bed.
We haven't used the stove in it and we only used the stove in our previous '99 Casita Freedom Deluxe a couple of times to heat water.

We wanted a King size bed in the 13'.

So it was a no brainer for us to remove the kitchen cabinet loosing the sink, stove, drawer and heater.
We go to full hook up sites so the cube heater is all we need for heat.
We have a microwave and Weber Go Anywhere Grill for cooking.
Sink ? We have a hand held shower in the bathroom and a drying rack to put on the microwave compartment door.

So I built a cabinet that doubles as the foot of the bed and as a outside accessible storage compartment.

I relocated the 110v access and installed the first compartment door on the drivers side for my hook up stuff, water hoses, filter, connectors and wheel chocks.

I also wanted a larger drawer an extra 110v outlet and 12v outlet.
I made a drawer that is wider and longer then the original.
As luck would have it our stuff fits perfectly.*

I relocated the switches for the water pump and water heater next to the drawer and on the other side of the drawer I mounted a 110v outlet and 12v outlet.
I also replaced the Converter / Breaker box with a new one I got from the Casita Factory along with the 2 compartment doors and a piece of carpet to patch the wall where the heater was. After shopping local and online the factory had the Best Price on these items.

A platform with folding legs that fills in the area between the refer and new cabinet makes the rest of the king bed.
We sleep front to rear. The bathroom is still accessible with the bed set up.

We found that the stock seat cushions compressed to the point that they became uncomfortable after sitting or laying on them for a while. So we picked up a pair of single memory foam toppers and had new cushions made using the stock foam and the memory foam.

As you can see the seat bottoms have both foams in them and the seat backs where made as separate cushions so you can still sit at the table.
The extra cushions stack on the new cabinet .*

It takes less then 5 minutes to set up.*

The platform travels against the rear wall captured by the table leg and the TravSaks stuff in under the table over the platform.

Looking for more storage space and fresh water capacity I removed and replaced the fresh water tank with a 25 gallon black ABS tank mounted under the trailer between the frame rails tucked up close to the kick up in the floor.
The tank is 8”h x 16”w x 48”w and the bottom is even with the factory Gray water tank.
It fills using the stock filler by extending the fill and vent tubes down through the floor and forward to the tank. No more sloshing fresh water out the filler.

I also added a sewer hose tube under the rear also.

The second compartment door is to access the area where the water tank was. We store blocks of wood and sewer fittings and gray water drain hoses, wheel chock, awning lights, hammer and pegs.

Other mods include high lift axle to level the trailer with the SSR, some LED lights inside relocated Propane tank and BBQ quick connect.

So there you have it a Casita KING 13 Deluxe !

Glen, great job on the mods on your trailer, the tank install looks like a factory install. And the lift kit is awesome nice job!

Thanks Ken H.

The next mod will be installing another tank to replace the Gray water tank with another one like the fresh tank. Good thing I have the ground clearance to do it.

Wow, what a project. Very nice job. Am I correct that the roof structural support is provided by the bathroom wall and a standard Casita might not be as good a candidate for this mod? It also occurs to me that most folks see the rivets as a disadvantage but in this case they do make this mod much easier. Thanks for sharing. Raz

Thanks, Raz

As short as the 13' is I don't think it would be a problem.

But it would be a good idea to call Casita and ask their opinion.
