Miscellaneous UHaul Modifications

Here are a few updates that I've made to my UHaul that others might find useful. In general I try to make modifications that can be reversed, so that explains some of the extra work.

Overhead bin door struts. JR Products 70545 Metal Cabinet Door Strut : Amazon.com : Automotive

Closet door and under sink cabinet door towel racks. The brackets are stainless steel and from Dollar Tree . The tubes are 1/2" anodized aluminum from the metal recycler. The tube ends are dipped in liquid electrical tape to trim them.

I replaced the access panel that held the battery meter with a quick remove door. The thumb cam lock is from eBay and the panel is painted aluminum sheet.

UHaul decals. I pulled some images from the web and had them all printed on a 4x6 decal at BuildaSign.com, then cut them out as appropriate.. Click image for larger version

Mr. Tom's latest mods!

MR. Tom,
NEATO! I really like the upper cabinet door struts! (great price too!) The towel racks and a decal would be nice as well but the door struts definitely will get priority. Thanks for this helpful info!

Thanks. The struts are quite stiff, thus the 4 screws holding the upper mounting attachment. On the lower attachment, I epoxied a small plate of aluminum on the back side of the plastic bin to distribute the load from the single stainless steel bolt.

Tom,
Love the towel racks and will try to duplicate as best I can.
As for the decals--Uhaul should be paying you to advertise for them.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and hard work.

The struts are the way to go for no hands hold open on top hinging doors on overhead [sic] cabinets or lockers. WARNING: They do not help your brain remember how well they function. If you haven't had them before, remember to close the door each time you open it and save the skin on your forehead.

I love the molded Kydex cab liners in the UHauls. Lotta class.

Those awnings were awesome on our last camping trip. Very hot with continuing light rain. I just opened the side windows , cracked the Fantastic fan open a bit and ran it to keep the inside cool. I did just pop for an Ultrabreeze cover to allow fan operation in heavier rain.

One other mod that I made that seems to work is a drip edge on the inside of the door opening. I was getting a little water on the inside of the door when the rain ran down the side and followed the contour of the molding to the inner door seal (due to surface tension). This D cross sectioned weather strip provides a point for the water to quit moving inward and to drop off the door frame outside the door seal.

The little fella on your tank is "Sammy U" he is hidden in all of the Super Graphics on out trucks. Kind of like a game to try and find him on the ones you have never seen before. That goes with the saying of "where will U go next?"

Ididn't realize that. Is that true of all the super graphics, even the original classic ones?

Just the ones with the numbers over them. The older ones aren't Super I guess. I will try and snap you a picture of one soon to show you how he looks.
