What you describe doesn't sound normal and could indicate deformation of the shell. That is usually caused by (1) loss of frame support from below, due to cracks or rust-out, and/or (2) loss of cabinet support within the trailer- closet by door is especially critical. Inspect your frame carefully and check that all the interior pieces are present and tightly riveted to the shell (try gently twisting the inside part of the rivets with a pair of pilers).
