I wanted to install a fan in my 13' scamp but did not want to cut in the roof or decrease the headroom. My solution was to buy 2 large 220 mm computer case fans from Newegg (Rosewill RCA-220-BL, also on amazon). After getting them I found out that unfortunately the direction is not reversible, but sucking air out is the primary function anyways. To install them in the escape hatch I used 3/4" aluminum brackets, I had to cut the corners off to allow the hatch to close (see picture). Another alternative would be to install them on a plexiglass sheet, that would reduce the circulation around the fans making them more efficient- but also give less air circulation when the fans are not in use. The 2 lines running across the hatch on the 2nd pictures are the same plastic profiles used at the corners for the cabinets, they run under the fand and prevent the insect net to rub on the fan.

Interesting Chris! I was thinking about something similar for extra fan assisted ventilation... How about some more photo's!

Very cool, Chris! (pun intended) I was thinking of using 4 120mm fans, but seeing how yours fill up the vent, might go with the bigger fans. Need to figure out a Maxxair-type cover for the escape hatch, anyone seen them made that size?

Great job.
I thought of doing the same just for the efficiency of the brushless motors.
You could mount the motors in such a way that they can swing down and rotate, that way they could direct air either direction, or just blow air wherever needed inside of the cabin. Caframo makes a marine exhaust fan that does just that.

Emergency Exit
Isn't the roof vent supposed to be your Emergency Exit ? If so are the fans quickly removable ?

The whole screen unit lifts up and over toward the front of the trailer. Unless you had really short wires, it should still work fine. If I'm scared enough to be climbing out the roof, I don't think either wires or fans would stop me for long!

As Kevin stated, the insect net with the lid flips out at as one piece for escape, so yes it still opens normally as long as everything is screwed on the insect-net frame and not the frame of the hatch. I wonder, though, what emergency would make me escape through the hatch .

True story. I'd probably never get my bottom up and out in the case of a fire, etc. But, some campgrounds have been known to lose some trees or big branches in windstorms and if your door is blocked, ya gotta figure a way to get out.
Having the whole screen unit lift up is a good idea. Wires can be cut if you have to use the hole as an egress. I think it looks like a good compromise!

I don't know about your trailer but unless your are slender 4 year old child there is no getting out of my trailer via the 10 x 10 vent hole.

The newer trailers have much bigger vents, they are 15"X22" or even 18"X25". I believe that they used emergency exits for the reason of the size rather than as exits.

There either used to be, or still is, a requirement that if there was a combustion appliance between the door and bed, there had to be another means of egress. I had a camper with an emergency door right next to the bed, and I don't know why they didn't just go with a push-out window like on a bus, but I'm kinda ticked that I can't just get a MaxxAir cover for my roof hole!
