Netting for the Trillium's upper shelves
For the first nine thousand miles we traveled with the Trillium, we simply accepted that any clothes stored on the upper shelves in the back would end up not on the shelves at the end of a travel day. Hurmph. Enough with that, sez we!
My strewn around undies, et al, should be a thing of the past thanks to Collins Cottage Industries' netting, plus velcro, a 10' length of bungee cord, and Raz's clever re-using/re-cycling ideas!
Now tell me: Just how cool is this!

Hi Pam ...
Raz recycled a piece of metal bar stock and copper elbows he had laying around . There is one upright in each corner; they are each attached with two screws, washers, and nuts.
I think the mesh will hold up okay, it has a nice "give" to it. After the whole thing was installed, I could easily pull the netting down to put a 5" high basin on the shelf, so there won't be any problem putting clothes and blankets up there .
Can't wait to test it on our bumpy ol' backroad !

That looks so great I've wanted to add upper shelving to my trailer, but thought I'd need to unload everything before going down the road. You've inspired me!

Maggie, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's as successful as it looks. And yes please, do report back... inquiring minds want to know!

Since you don't have trillium shelves...
Go to your local junk yard and get the grocery nets out of a couple of wrecks, most have four corner loops and the can be attached between cabinets to make travel proof stuff hammocks!

Version 1.1
It turns out that the shelf is made from much thinner fiberglass than the trailer walls. Pushing down on the shock cord caused the vertical supports to twist inward, buckling the shelf in the middle. To cure this we have added a metal stiffened to the front of the shelf. This seems to have fixed the problem as long as the gorilla glue holds. Raz

That is so awesome! Going to look at doing that with ours. Would be so handy not having things spill out! Thanks

Here's another storage idea using netting. I happened to find a hanging shoe organizer that fit perfectly on my closet cabinet. With a little modification I was able to get it to fit snugly. I simply added some strips of elastic on the bottom. The custom shelves are set back so the depth of the pockets fit when the door is closed. I think one could modify a standard hanging shoe organizer relatively easily.

Hey Maggie and Raz
I love your netting and am going to attempt something similar before an upcoming trip.
If you were to do it again, would you start with the metal stiffening or use lighter elastic?
Any other thoughts now that your netting has many miles on it?

LOOKIN' GOOD
Nice job on those simple but very efficient mods.
I have always found that the four(4) small rectangular cushions fit nicely between the ceiling and the bottom, outer edge of the side shelves to keep most items in place.
BTW, netting from vans and SUVs from an auto wrecker can be recycled and the price is usually right.
