Nice refit there Peter, MUCH better then the original.
You could likely go to many hardware stores, or Stair and Railing shops, and get some metal spindles too.

I looked at the stair spindles at Home Depot. They cost less than the tiki torches and have a similar cage-looking section in the middle, but their main shaft is twisted square stock, and I preferred the look of the round shaft of the Tiki Torches. The spindles from the specialty stores would have worked, but cost more than $10 each tiki torches.

Just finished the curb/sink-side counter and upper cabinet support. We upgraded our sink to a double-bowl unit, something Lynne's wanted for a long time!

Very pretty!

The only thing I'd wonder is if the open design might bend in it's "support" role. I don't know what sort of pressure they can take vs what sort of load that part really takes though.

Just no denying it looks much better than the original twisted stock look.

The main thing the supports do right now is hold the weight of the cabinets up and stop the shell from sagging . . . that's not much weight at all. The only other thing that the supports might have to bear is the weight of a rooftop A/C (under 100 lbs), but that additional weight is borne by both the cabinet/roof supports and the floor-to-ceiling bathroom enclosure and opposing curb-side cabinet.

All-in-all there's just not a lot of weight those supports need to worry about. My cute little replacements will do the job and prevent the roof will sag and stress cracking that occurs when they've been removed.

I LOVE the look of the new supports.

Now.... how can we integrate some LED lighting into them. (just kidding ... I think)
So there I was, just minding my own business and doing my grocery shopping when I came across these little LED tea candles for just $0.50 each. I couldn't help but think of Carol Ann and her request . . .

Time for my input.

I'm not sure about the size, but I can see something like the round spiral spring in a golf ball retreiver show below

Painted flat black and set into the bottom of the tiki torch to hold the LED tea candles straight in position.

Or since Peter welded this as a project, just a round ring tacked into position to hold the tea light.

I would guess that Scamp is following the thought that if something ain't broke you don't fix it.
But I always thought that those twisted things were UGLY!
You have led the way in improving the looks.
I wonder if commercial wooden spindles wouldn't work also.
After a short look, bingo:

Turns out they are called Newels or Balusters.
