New stuff

We made two upgrades to camping this past weekend. First, we bought two kayaks, both of them Perception Prodigy models. Gail got a 10' red one, I got a 12' sunburst one. Soon we will have a complete Yakima mounting system for our tow vehicle, and off we'll go! Camp and get on the water.

Next we removed the drab curtains the egg came with and brightened it up a bit with new shades.

The new (cheap) power tongue jack I put on failed to work, so we're going to upgrade to a much better one made by Atwood that comes with a 5 year warranty. And at some point before summer is over, we will get a carport for the egg.

Nice Frank!
We happen to have Preception kayaks and the Yakima mount as well. Once you get set up come on over to the boundary waters. Nothing more relaxing than a twilight cruise on the lake after dinner. We know of a few places where you can paddle up to see the Indian petroglyphs.
Vic and I are headed up there (Ely) in a couple of weeks.

We have two 9 footers and two 12's. Three of them Old Towns and one I think is a Perception. You'll find the 12 is much nicer to paddle, it'll track better. Last month in the Adirondaks we got scolded by a NYS Ranger for not having life jackets out where they were readily available, they were behind the seat. Found out we don't have to wear it, just have it available out on the deck. Also learned those old floaty boat cushions are no longer valid as a life preserver. We use Thule racks, mainly because I got a good deal on them.

Sid, Mapquest says Eli is about a 22 hour drive! It will be a while before we make it out there.

We got a deal on the Yakima stuff because our two youngest sons work for EMS. We should have it by the end of the month. Till then, they fit just fine in the back of the F150.

The cap I bought for my truck last fall is set up for Yakima rack mounts. Figures because I have all Thule stuff. Haven't tried to figure out what I'll need yet. Mary likes the rack that Dave & Kate (tearup) have, pulls out and down the side of the truck roof for easy loading.

If Dave & Kate have Thule Hullavators, they were just out of our price range. Bad enough having to buy the racks! (Stock ones would not work.) We got Yakima's folding J-hooks, otherwise the entire deal would have to come off Gail's car every time she parked in our very low garage. The Yakima stuff we got has a bar that pulls out on the front that you can lift one end of the kayak up onto, then lift the back into the J-kook. A poor man's Hullivator!

That pull out bar sounds like a good idea Frank. We have a set of the Thule J type saddles, but prefer the saddles we have where the kayaks set upright. Nice looking Kayaks you have, and the cockpit openings size look good for ease of getting in and out. Something we need as we get older, ease of getting in & out, LOL. We have those cockpit covers too.

These Yakima folding j-hooks will hold our boats upright.

We tried a bunch of kayaks out, did a bunch of research, talked to a number of people who have been kayaking for years, and finally decided to go with Perception's Prodigy model. Certainly one of the things we both like about them is the width of the cockpit. We had to have the cockpit covers, too many wasps around.

Right now I'm figuring out how to sling the boats and get them high up in our small barn. We bought these from Amazon: Amazon.com : RAD Sportz Kayak Hoist Lift Garage Storage Canoe Hoists (Lifetime Warranty), 125-Pound Capacity : Boat Storage : Sports & Outdoors as they do exactly what I was trying to figure out how to do! Plus they're only $33/kayak, better than I could do just buying pulleys, rope, hooks, slings etc. I about got one figured out this morning. May try and actually mount it tonight or tomorrow night when there's less humidity. Also trying to get my hot rod rebuilt, not enough time in the day.

I bought that strap system that lets you hang three kayaks on a wall. I only hang two.
