Old Scamp 13 kitchen drawers.

A week or so ago I wrote asking for help...

I thought I had save the link to this message, but, i am unable to locate it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, since no one responded to my cry for help...I had to wing it and think for myself! Which is not a wise thing to do!

Anyway, here are a couple of photos showing the rrsults:

With the lower kitchen cabinet door closed, and with the large door open:

Someday I might get around to painting the drawers. Maybe!

Excellent! Sorry, I either didn't see your first post or couldn't help because I have a furnace in that area. Either way I've never considered pull out shelves/drawers. What a great way to make full use of space!

Thanks Emily and Darnell,

Only time will tell whether having to open the cabinet door to open a drawer will be a big bother, or a blessing.

A blessing if the door will, as I hope, keep the two drawers from sliding open as the trailer travels down the highways and byways of America.

I would still have my furnace in that space...if the dang thing had worked!

I like that. Did you have to cut the door opening larger than the original? I've been trying to figure out how to make that space more usable.

No, Lyle, other than doing a slight bit of trimming along the sides, and top, and removing the fiberglass between the two open spaces, the opening has not been changed all that much.

I just used a powered jig saw with a old wood cutting blade to do the cutting. Yeah, a metal or fiberglass blade might have been better...but, I didn't want to go buy one, and I have cut fiberglass with wood cutting blades before.

My first thoughts were to make a couple of very short drawers to fit into the space where the milk "water" containers are now placed. However, I decided that was a lot of work for the limited amount of drawer space I would be obtaining.

Besides, I needed that space for my water supply!

Thank you Darnell! The chrome handle on the door is there mainly to have a place to attach hand towels. My wife has sewed some "loops" (that close with a large button) on some towels. The loop on the towels holds it in place on the drawer pull.

Yeah, I too will be using water jugs for my drinking water, so that looked like a perfect spot for them.

Thanks.

So where is your furnace? Did you relocate it farther back to the wall, or?

Lyle, someone on this forum wrote that a plastic milk container would hold four one-gal milk containers, and make a nice holder for the containers, and keep them contained.

I thought that the front storage area under the bunk, next to the door, would be a place to store 4 more 1-gal water containers.

No furnace at all! The furnace is tucked away in a storage building. It is a 38-year old Suburban Travel Home Heater that was installed when the Scamp was new.

It didn't look all that bad...no rusted thru combustion vents, etc. However, the controls were froze in place. I wasn't able to find a local source to check the furnace out, or make repairs if needed, and Suburban wouldn't answer my emails.

So my furnace will be a old clay flower pot inverted over my one-burner stove!

Looks way better than my makeshift storage using plastic shoe boxes! It would be great to have a pull-out cabinet like the pantry pull-outs for kitchens.

Very nice work, Bill… you're coming right along! I like the door and the positive latch. Have you been camping yet?

Gilida, I'd love to have a couple of those pull-out pantries for my home kitchen! The kitchen cabinets in my home are 50-years old...so you know there is no modern features built in!

Thanks Jon!

No camping yet! I hope to be ready to go somewhere by mid-April.

However, it might be just in my back yard!
