Paint over resin paint?

Oops- just looked up what he really said. He called it epoxy paint.

I have a Companion 13' that the previous owner took the furry stuff off the interior walls, and he told me he painted it with epoxy paint. The color is awful, like dead putty, and I'd like to lighten it up. But I sure don't want the new stuff to peel for being a bad match with his product.

Any idea what kind of paint I should use?

Epoxy paints are hard and tough. For anything to have a chance of sticking the surface will have to be clean and sanded and all shine taken off. Then your probably stuck with using another epoxy or a urethane paint system. Most of these type of paints are used in the automotive/boat applications or in the concrete floor products. Almost all of these type of paints require respirators during application. Remember you will be working in a confined space so forced fresh air is a must.

Most paint with "poxy" in the name aren't epoxy. It's just marketing BS.

Sand off the gloss and I bet most any kind of paint would stick just fine.

Try a little test a area. Paint it, let the paint dry thoroughly then make several cris-cross scratches with a razor blade. Stick on a piece of scotch tape and pull it off. If the paint doesn't come off you are good to go.

I'd also look into using a sealer, such as KILZ, on top of the existing paint before applying your first color coat. It makes a decent paint interface on almost anything, check their website for further info about application over "Epoxy" type paints.

An epoxy paint is very hard and scratch resistant. Properly applied this stuff lasts millions of years and only fails when the sun goes Supernova.

Sand it with 220 grit with a random orbital sander to make it dull. Wipe with solvent, and ou can tip and roll white epoxy paint over it and make it look fantastic, and easy to maintain. I typicaly use Interlux Perfection, thin it 40% and put on three coats. It goes on very thin so fix any imperfections before you start. I can't believe I can smell it just thinking about it!

Pay attention to the other comments about using a respirator, particularly in confined spaces.
