Miriam, I used the wife's craft paints and sealed it with a clear varnish spray when I finished. It never chipped or faded while we had the unit.

Did you have to do something to prepare the surface? I find acrylic craft paints often sliiiide off when they get wet (after they've dried).

Hi, as far as I can remember I simply roughed the surface up with course sandpaper before painting. The rock guard was pretty rough I recall.

I painted another on our Bigfoot with the same paint and it stayed put pretty well.
