Painting your camper

When painting your camper, how many paint the lower half of the door the same color as the bottom half and how many paint it the same color at the top half?

I just painted mine and all the bottom half including the bottom half of the door is now Black and the top half is Silver Gray. I like this look better, but see many with the door all 1 color.

I think the original doors were always the top colour. I think it would be difficult trying to separate the colours in the gel coat of a mold. If they could, matching the colour lines of door to body would be even more difficult.

I agree that on certain trailers the 2 colour door looks good. But it is a sure sign the trailr has been painted. For me, I had FG damage on the top and door but not the bottom of my boler American. I'll be doing the Zep thing restoring the original green and painting the top and door white. Trying to keep the "original" look.

Personally, I like the full half 'n half painted look. Otherwise, to me, the door always looks like it's been replaced and out of place... kinda jarring. Anyone that doesn't know egg trailers wouldn't know which is original anyway. Some new owners think these trailers come from the factory painted.

What's far more important is what YOU like.

I don't have your problem, my trailer is all white

The answer is what Donna said, do what you like.
i personally prefer the original look with the single door color that matches the top.

What kind of paint did you use? Did you use a sprayer?

I used the roll and tip method using Interlux Marine Pre-Kote mix of 1 can White and 1 can grey Brightside to come up with a lighter grey color and then used Brightside high gloss 1-part Polyurethane #4258 Black for the bottom and #4205 Seattle Gray for the top. Pics are in my gallery, for some reason it will not let me attach pics here.

The paint on mine is called Endura an industrial paint used in the aircraft industry. I had it professionally sprayed.

I would recommend Ian's method because that looks great!

If you want the lower cost, do it yourself route I used rustoleum topside paint. I did white on top and blue on bottom and made the door the same two color split. I used a small roller and rolled their primer and paint. Upon close inspection I can see where I could have done better but I think it looks a lot better than before.

Roll on with a roller and the take the tip of a paint brush to smooth it out.
