You can use a portable surge protector one that plugs into the pedestal and your cord plugs into it. If it blows as it is suppose to in emergencies then it won't damage your trailer. I have seen the built in ones actually burn and could cause a fire. Saw this at a class at an RV Rally. We've had them go bad and all we had to do is toss it out and buy a new one. Actually happened 2 years ago. We used to not have a surge protector and got into storm and it knocked out our converter. For extra protection if there's an electrical storm we unhook the electric cord until the storm is over.

Get a car stereo with a USB port on the front. Then you can leave the CDs at home if you want, where they will never get damaged. You can store an almost unlimited amount of music on a thumb drive and simply plug it into the port, either in the car or the trailer. The USB port will also charge your phone.

actually, I did exactly that for years. last time I car stereo shopped, half the car stereos crashed when presented with a 32GB USB stick full of about 800 complete CDs, they simply couldn't handle that many directory entries. but now days, I've got my recorded music on my phone (which has 128GB flash), I still like having a CD player for when I buy music at concerts...
we've hijacked this guys thread and taken it way off his track

Here's a reasonably price marine inlet with a cap for protection from the elements when not plugged in:

They're available in white as well.

It is relatively low capacity, (15A). But if that is all you need then it is perfect. Unfortunately it is physically small as well, so to cover the original power inlet hole, I had to use an aluminum plate.
