Have you ever heard the old adage, "If your only tool is a hammer, all of your problems become nails"? When you're on an assembly line, maybe one guy drills all of the holes and moves on to the next trailer doing the same. Then another guy follows putting rivets in those holes; that may be all he does all day long is putting rivets in holes. The work goes faster that way. Jobs are broken up and spread over several people only doing a part of it, for the efficiency.

Your comment reminds me of a great poem by Shel Silverstein...
From his book titled... "Where the Sidewalk Ends"
A great book and worth the price!

"Bang-Klang"

" I'm Big Barney Zang of the railroad gang
My partner is Charlie O'Flynn
I hold the nails
For the big steel rails
And Charlie, he hammers 'em in
And most of the time
He does just fine,
But now and again he fails.
Maybe tomorrow I'll hammer 'em in,
And let Charlie hold the nails."

The poem is followed by an illustration of Barney...
with a spike through his head!

Great Rip Floor Rip Out

Oh...Floyd...I love Shel Silverstein!!! Love the image.

Mr. Man has decided on the Advantech product for the patch.

So...here's the latest progress on the floor....

Slooooowly...

we're making progress...

at least on the purchase of repair supplies.

We decided on the Advantech sub-flooring...it's guaranteed for 50 years.

West Marine carried the epoxy and polyester resin, a woodworking store was the source for the Wood-Rot penetrating epoxy. Yet to be purchased is the fiberglass tape, resin and thickener for upside down work.

Hatches were snagged from Gander Mt. through their website with a coupon and free shipping & Great Lakes Skipper through E-Bay, although there was a shipping cost it was still $2.00 cheaper than my favorite buddies at Amazon. Awaiting arrival of both.

All in all, the vinyl ends up being the least expensive of all the purchases...but, she'll have a sturdy subfloor on which to ride.

It's hard being patient and I am admittedly driving Mr. 2yax nuts wanting this done so we can get out there camping again.

Onward and up to something....

...Josie

Moderator note: This was getting buried over in General Chat. It's about a repair/modification; some of our "techies" may have missed it...

Thanks...

I realised too late that I'd put it in the wrong forum.

Thank you.

The street side 15 x 10 1/2 Hatch from Great Lakes Skipper came in today.

When the second one comes in Mr. 2yax is going to take them to our locksmith and have them re-keyed for safety and fewer keys to get lost.

Tough enough to have to look at the floor of your camper and see the ground. Now the poor man has to go cutting holes in the side of his camper. No stress there. Then again fortune favors the bold. When I had to enlarge the vent on our fridge I used a jigsaw with a grit blade. Others have said a rotary tool with a grinding bit works well. Perhaps this is a rite of passage to fiberglass camper ownership. Good luck, Raz .

We had talked about the hatches early on, just never did anything about it.

He figured since he had the seats out he may as well do it all at the same time.

He got the template made today...or at least all but the curved part...I think that comes tomorrow.

Slowly we go...

Step by Step...

Didn't sumbunny do a comedy routine back in the black and white TV days...Niagra Falls...don't mention Niagra Falls? Inch by inch...step by step. Something like that.(dating myself there I guess)

Aneee----hooo.....

The template for the floor is done. Now...not being a carpenter type I was IMPRESSED with his work. But...himself says it's a simple, rudimentary template of the style he used for measuring Corian and granite for counter tops in his kitchen/bath builder days. What do I know....I think it's marvelous...it follows the curve of the corner and the slight bow of the back window wall and will make his job much easier when he cuts the master.

So...rudimentary...or what ever...this is it...and I'm impressed. (and if I didn't screw up the upload it is oriented as is the hole in the present floor.)

Josie...

Raz...slight delay due to change of mind in bonding materials. He decided to go epoxy all the way and the materials just arrived last week.

We, howsumever, are not at a standstill completely...see my posting "Hatches and Rare Earth" for the companion project while the seats are out.
