More Back Storage

We have two drawers under the driver's side dinette. Water pipes, wires and cables run behind these drawers. We use the behind drawer space for storing rarely accessed stuff. I've added a divider between the drawer area and the side wall of the trailer. This divider prevents things from falling into the drawer area and keeps things organized.

In this area we'll store some rarely used things including a solar LED lantern, spare toilet paper and ... To the right of the drawers we store a Crock Pot, a small fan, and an electric heater.

Our goal is to have a place for everything.

Small Container Storage

Last year someone on the forum asked what we use for small storage containers. In general we use a nesting set, common cover set of pint, 1/2 pint and 1/4 pint containers, mostly for leftovers in our small fridge.

However, my recolllection was that the poster was looking for even smaller containers. Ginny recently found the following containers at the Dollar Tree Store for 10/$1. We have already used 10 of them.

The square containers we purchased are about 2x2x1". The are also available in cylindrical shapes.

Small things

Minimizing big projects since I had a 'hanging on' cold since we came home.

My goal is to continually improve places for things. Previously the volt meter just hung out in the left side of this closet. It how has a home on the door.

It seems my cheap volt meters from Harbor Freight last about one year and then die. Yours looks very much like the ones I buy. Have you had the same experience? Or is your meter from a different store and if so which one and how long has it lasted?

Cheers John

Meters

I bought my meter at Frye's in 2008. I've had to replace the battery once in that time period. The meter is very good but doesn't measure current. I have a Fluke meter for that purpose but it stays home.

I love Frye's and whenever we're in Seattle or Pheonix I save a day for it. Ginny spends most of her time in the flashlight aisle.

For those that don't know Frye's electronics is the Ikea for qeeks.

Though we are very organized, at least in our trailer, we've worked to refine it further for this year.

P.S. The picture points out that I have a loose wire.

Frye's Seattle (Renton)

Carol,

It's just off I 405 at exit 5. The store's huge and has all kinds of electronics. There's even a food stop in the center of the store.

Many of their sales are available to only store customers.

FRYS.com

They actually have a lot of stores in the west but only 1 in WA.

LOL now I get it you mean Frys not Fryes as you originally indicated. The Frys in Washington is in Renton, Fryes on the other hand only has one retail store I know of its in NYC.

I guess you missed the part about: "Ginny spends most of her time in the flashlight aisle."

Learning

"the flashlight aisle"....

One of the neat aspects of our long term RVing has been getting to know Ginny better. It's amazing that when we we started some 11+ years ago we had been married 38 years, yet there was so much yet to learn about her, about her little 'likes' that she had of which I had no insight.

I always hear people say 'how can you stand being together for such long periods? (sometimes adding in a tiny space'). For us that is a wonderful part of our travels, just the two of us. I know many have written on the site and two me of similar expectations or styles, but for us it's become an unexpected reality.

RVing has been another period of growing up, of more clearly seeing what life can be, in part I must say because we are less distracted by work, family and 'stuff'.

Just feeling real good as we begin packing up for this years trip.

Nope didnt miss that! Which along with the location & name Norm mentioned had me scratching my head.

Jim your correct I was thinking boots as the stores name was originally posted as "Fryes" with an "E" which was the reason I asking for clarification.

Being able to go shopping for a nice new pair of awesome boots and shopping for cool new electronics all in one store would have made me a very happy girl! MIght have jumped in the car to do a little shopping this week-end

Cold Floor

It's been very cold for early Nov on the NH coast. Today sitting on the floor adjusting the spring catches on the cabinet doors I noticed that the floor was very cold. Outside of windows, all surfaces in the trailer feel warm to the touch with the electric heater keeping the trailer toasty warm.

Actually the floor under the dinette is relatively warm, probably because of the insulating properties of the grey tank. The primary floor between the two counters has no insulation. This probably could be greatly improved by attaching a layer of foam to the underside of the floor.

Has anyone done this?

Escape Trailers use spray foam on the entire bottom, as an option. Here is a picture of the back where you can see the yellow foam. Also carpet runners inside also help with the cold.

Magazine Rack

Our bathroom door has a magazine rack on the back of the door. It contains a couple of Escapee magazines and our campground logs. Since it's usually pretty full I've added a second above the first.

Just doing the little things before we head out.

Magazine Rack Pictures

Our Scamp came from the previous owner with a magazine rack on the back of the bathroom door. It's hard to imagine that it came from the Scamp factory with the rack but it has turned out to be handy. I decided to add a second below the first.

The second is not quite as attractive but it is a little deeper and will continue our goal of adding organization to the trailer.

(The blue blob in the first picture is my 'jeaned' knee.)

As an aside I plan to replace the bathroom door with Birch plywood like I did for the cabinets when we return this coming spring.

Awning Rail

It appears our last mod before we leave will be the addition of the awning.

Ginny has sown the awning material, about 12x9 feet, or 12 square yards. It weighs about 2 ozs per yard or about a 1 1/2 lbs. The material is forest green though Ginny calls it teal. It is urethane coated rip stop nylon purchased from Seattle Fabric.

She sewed a loop along the each of the long sides. A 1/2 inch plastic segmented pole slips thru the upper loop and then slides over four plastic Command Hooks. These hooks are removable and do not damage the surface.

A similar but larger diameter pipe will go thru the loop away from the trailer. Each end of this pipe will be connected to a pole via a right angle connector. I'll build that in the morning and show a picture.
