Propane Coffee Maker

Has anyone tried one of these? They look like a great solution for coffee making -

Brunton 81-100730 BrewFire Coffee Maker BrewFire Coffee Maker

I am also looking at the Coleman Camping coffee maker that you put on a propane stove - they are around $33 on Amazon

I have the Coleman and it works great. The only thing is it doesn't have a warming feature so I carry a thermal carafe.

Same here - we use the Coleman, carry a thermal carafe and love it. Both take up a little more room that we'd like, but it sure makes a great cup of coffee and I'm not sure I want to compromise on that.

Our Bunn is crapping out at home. Wonder if it hooks up to LP.

Robert and I also use the Coleman. Look in the thrift stores in your area. Lizbeth found ours that way and snagged it for us for $10. It was in the box and looked unused.

I may just have to try that direct Propane model...

I too have the Coleman. I keep in the bottom, tall cabinet of my Bigfoot galley. I found it via Craig's list for about $15 and bought a stuff sack for it at my local camping store. Nancy, as others have already stated, the Coleman does not keep the coffee warm once brewed. But if you already own a thermos, you are set!

If you or Frederick decide go get the direct Propane model, I'd be interested in your reviews.

I've used a manual Melitta for over 20 years. Just a simple cone and a pot - use any stove to boil water. When we accidentally left our last one in a motel in Denver I found a replacement at Amazon.

Hi there,

We use a Melita manual coffee maker that comes with and drips into a carafe. Like it lots.

The link listed 76 different retailers, none of whom I am familiar with. However, the price ranges from a LOW of $74.86 and a HIGH of $217.98!

I'm beginning to like my $10 Coleman even more every day.

We are using a small percolator that goes on the stove, small and light.

I have a Coleman camping coffee maker but it takes to long and is to bulky.
I use my french press travel mug I bought for camping about 3 years ago everyday. I only use the coffee maker when I have company.
The mug capacity is 1 2/3 cups which is enough to get me going in the morning.
They have comparable mugs on Amazon.
It makes great coffee and all you need is a tea kettle to heat the water.

John, looks like a good idea. To tell the truth I was thinking of getting something similar on the Amazon site to use when I am camping alone.

I think the french press is preferable (for me) to a manual drip system. But its drawback is ... the grounds to be cleaned up.

Nothing is perfect.

Or better yet, just use the button and use a link like THIS.

The brewfire looks like it might be kind of bulky for the tiny countertop areas that so many of us have in our trailers. But if you have an outdoor kitchen setup, it would probably be fine. Me, I use a percolator, or else a mellita drip cone.

After much fussing with different methods of making coffee while Scamping over the last 5 years we finally hit one that works best for us. Takes up a small amount of space. Easy to use and makes a good cup of coffee.

GSI Java Drip Coffee Maker - 30 oz. at REI.com

Look at all the pictures to get the idea of how it works. We use paper filters which are simply disposed of. Rinse out the pot and it's ready for the next round. We liked the coffee presses except for the cleaning.

I just bought the same Melitta 10 cup manual drip coffee pot that you listed above. I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond (online only) for $12.99. It is hard to beat that price for a nice cup of drip coffee. The 10 cup capacity is nice, compared to many of the smaller portable coffee solutions.

The grocery store near my house carries the #6 cone filters for it, but be aware that many stores do not... for instance, my local Wal-Mart. I believe the #6 cones are only used for manual drip, so there is probably not a whole lot of demand for them.

Oh, and you'll need a tea kettle or some other means of heating the water.
