Close to 7 amps @ 12v- pretty high draw on your battery, doesn't leave much else. Engel advertises one for less than 3 amp @12v, course it costs twice as much!!

right below that number it says 6.6 @ 12v, I think!! It is a 3 way, is it not?

Didnt realize how heavy these guys are empty 20kgs (44lbs) add a few cold ones to it and I may have a problem moving it out of the car.

Venturing into territory I only very dimly (and often incorrectly) understand:
I think amps "count" is different depending on the source voltage...."six point six amps" at 12v works out to about the same wattage as "point seven amps" at 120v...

Correct Francesca, both are high draws for a inverter/battery, we are saying the same thing, differently!!

My only point is I believe in keeping with one you made earlier, that converting 12v power to 120v in order to run this fridge on 120v via an interior car connection would result in power losses across the inverter.
I was attempting to further point out that in order to do so, one would need a car-mounted inverter capable of putting out more wattage than most cigarette lighter-type plugs and inverters designed to fit them will supply.

V X A = W. For the same wattage, the other stuff seesaws. That's playground algebra for one thing gets bigger while one gets smaller to maintain equality across the parallel tracks. I'll bet that clarifies everything.

The posted specs say - 15 g/h (that's 15 grams of propane per hour, which would produce about 190 watts of heat flow if burned completely)
- 290 BTU/hour (that is 85 watts of heat flow)
- 0.70 A at 100 to 120 V AC (that is 70 to 84 W)
- 6.6 A at 12 V DC (that is 79 W)
The 12VDC outlets in my minivan are labelled for a maximum of 120 watts. Most inverters intended for in-car use are rated at 100 watts or more, although I have a little 75 watt inverter which would be insufficient for this application.
It has the power sources of a classic "3-way" RV refrigerator.

I've got a 1500/2000 inverter, 1/0 entry cable from the battery, and solar. I can't run my dorm fridge forever but at least it WILL produce cooling performance considerablly more useful than 35 below ambient F. or 20 below ambient C. And it's about twice the size of this cooler and built-in. No free lunch folks.

We have the mobicool and think its great. It is really heavy and has so much insulation that you only have 3/4 of the unit for food storage. Having said that it is a great price for a 3 way unit. Plug it in the night before you leave, plug it in 12v in the car for the trip and then run on propane when you arrive at camp. No more ice (or wet cheese). Great little cooler for Saskatchewan maybe not as efficient in Florida.
