You did a meticulous job Jim and it shows. I've been thinking about doing something to replace the carpet under my dinette and the step up to the bed. Two small sections but difficult to keep clean. I have one piece vinyl and it is holding up OK except for a few dents from dropping things. It is easy to sweep out.

I have vinyl covered wood in places and that stuff! It is beyond stupid that they would use something that does not hold up and is difficult or impossible to repair.

Question,

I pulled up the uninstalled carpet in my 1982 Burro. The only thing under it (besides the carpet pad) is the green fiberglass floor. It's bolted to the white fiberglass sides.

Should I be concerned? Should I install some type of plywood then lay the carpet back down?

Thanks!

I think there is plywood laminated under the fiberglass in a burro. But I am not sure.

Can you post a picture?

Lfoxmont, I believe you will find that your original Burro floor is a sandwich of fiberglass over plywood over fiberglass. Unfortunately, the edges were not always sealed all that well and if water leaks around the windows, the plywood gets soaked and eventually delaminates, causing the fiberglass to heave and eventually allowing the floor to rot out. Make sure those window seals are working properly!

So far, window seals are fine. The only place I had concern with was that the PO had wrapped carpet over edge of floor by the door extending it under camper. Took one trip with rain to bring that problem to my attention. I trimmed away the extended carpet, used aluminum carpet trim and finished the edge so there isn't anymore "wicking" from carpet being on the exterior.

I had thought about installing something else besides carpet but after three camping trips this Spring, I have grown to like the stuff.....so it will stay for now.

That is interesting. It actually looks like the plywood has been cutout maybe? I don't know on that rig, but looks suspicious. Do you have more photos maybe zoomed out a little further so we can see exactly what's going on there?

You don't think there is plywood under the green? It should make more of a thud than a clack if you tap it. I dono we need a burro expert to chime in here

Don't forget....this is a Burro. Not joined with belly band, but with clamshell seal with seal running up top.

Well It looks like I am going with allure floors . I was going to do the engineer wood but after using some samples of engineer wood as coasters for my drinks I decided against installing engineered wood on the scamp. The coasters became rigged and started to lift on the edges. I did not like what i saw. So Allure floor it is. I don't think i will glue them down do to the Chance of mold. I also need help getting the carpet out by the screen door. Any suggestions?

Hubby installed Allure last spring after I insisted we needed new flooring and wanted the wood look. We both love it. It is SO easy to shake out the rugs and sweep the floor. I put a small vacuum and a Swiffer in there and used neither. Just a simple broom worked this summer.

I did wood flooring in my rig about 7 months ago. Mid-light traffic. Still looks great and expect it to look good for a long time. the little added weight didn't seem to bother anything. I'm real happy with it. Clean up is a breeze with a broom and sometimes a damp cloth. No big deal. Good luck on your floor.
