Really a Boler??

I spotted this trailer a few streets over from me. True Boler or a conglomeration of several?

Yep, really a Boler. One of the few "Square" Bolers made. Looks like an Amerigo though doesn't it

I was not quite sure what it was. The Boler rock guard doesn't fit very well and it looked too square to me. Seems to be at least 15 or 17'.

I think most of those rock guards looked like that in the Square Boler. Here's an old ad with interior pictures... notice how badly the rock guard fits in this one too.

Well, I learned something today! Sure looks like an Amerigo. Any connection between the two?

Wish my Boler was square, it was a pain in the a** to glue the styrofoam insulation and headliner to the domed shape corners...

The Square Boler was manufactured in Earlton in 1980 and is called the "1650". Remembering tid-bits of info, I remember "they" said it was manufactured using the Amerigo molds... whether that's true or not?

Donna, that kinda makes sense, since Amerigo made the FG-16 from 1971-1974, I believe. This is a number of years later, so somehow or other Boler (or the Earlton plant) must have acquired the molds.

Style preferences in the late 70's and 80's had evolved toward angular, squared-off forms (think Volvo 240), so I wonder if Boler was trying a new direction to revive itself, or if this was a last-gasp project of one of its plants to keep their workers employed a little longer... This was near the end for Boler, right?

Barry I wonder if you could convince the owners to let you share a few pictures of the inside, or better yet, join us and share themselves? The outside looks well-cared for.

I enjoy the rounded shape of my Boler-derived Scamp, both for aesthetics and aerodynamics. But I intend to make sure I never have to replace the insulation and lining! I feel your pain!

Jon, the wish of it being square only pertains to the installation of the insulation and wall covering, I do like the uniqueness of the Boler body. If I ever win the lottery then I will start collecting them, one of each make/model and then open a museum for vintage trailers with a whole section devoted to molded fiberglass...I was surprised to find here that Boler made a square model...who can name all the Boler plants and location - both American and Canadian? I would like to know...

As far as insulation on mine, everyone has pretty much said reflectix, and while I realize it would probably have been easier to cut and apply, I felt like the 1" polystyrene board would better insulate our Boler to make it easier for our 5000 BTU to keep it cool in the hot Georgia summers and also a better noise barrier. Most of it went in fine with "Locktite Professional 300" which says works on polystyrene, DAP contact cement worked too but if the plastic was torn on the styrofoam it attacked it so we switched. The round corners don't look pretty without the headliner as we had to rough cut everything but filled in the cracks/voids with expanding spray foam, once we get the headliner in today I think it will look fine. Our goal was to have a seamless headliner, so we are doing one continuous piece from the cabinet by the door all the way around the rear and up the drivers side to the bath room, inside the cabinets will be separate pieces and 2 on the ceiling and 2 in the bath so we should only have 4 seams showing if all goes well.

Hmmm. Never know for sure, but might just be a sticker applied. I have a picture of the three sizes but the website won't let me upload a .jpg Weird.

Wrong again!… Amerigo made them for quite a bit longer, well beyond 1980. Sigh… I will never master the history of these trailers!

Tim, are you suggesting they were manufactured by Amerigo and rebadged by Boler? Sort of like a Geo Metro was a rebadged Suzuki?

No just saying someone bought a boler decal and put it on! I notice it has the maple leaf on the logo suggesting it is a Canadian made boler. If made by Amerigo or in the lower 49 for that matter, not sure why it would have that particular logo.

The Square Boler I referenced in a link in post #4 has the same decal on the front and side... complete with Maple Leaf. And that post in the link is from 2011.

The Boler history thread (of which I still haven't read every last word!) seems clear that Boler did sell a 1650 model (as Donna says). Nothing is certain in the murky world of egg history, but it sure looks like it was made from the identical molds as the US-based Amerigo FG-16. And if it was manufactured in Canada at the same time Amerigo was still making the FG-16 in the US… well, there must have been some arrangement between the companies. At least, that's how my mind works…

Attached is a picture of Paul Neumeister's Boler 1650. Y'all might know him as the gentleman who owns: Fibreglass RV Parts, Repairs, and Service by Paul Neumeister

I can confirm that it is a square boler - I own one

This is the only place that I've been able to find information on the alleged "square boler". There were only 55 made. I found this one a few weeks ago and have been restoring it slowly. The original only had one front window installed. Mine must have been customized as an additional front window was added at the factory.

From the interior pics posted in the thread "very kool looking boler", I found that mine is identical.

(sorry I don't know how to rotate pics)
