Refinishing Cupboard Doors

Has anyone used paper backed veneers to reface the doors?
It is real wood on a paper backing. I saw it at Venneersupply.com
You could have any type of wood you wanted.

Incidentally Scamp parts tell me that all they have for door replacement is Cherry. SOOO if you damage/scratch a door and want one from Scamp it will be Cherry

I am wondering if that is what Scamp is doing for the new Deluxe trailer with the wood interior.

I use 1/2" oak cabinet plywood for replacement panels that match fairly well. Where i live the blue big box store sells 4x4 sheets and the orange store sells 4x8 sheets. you may not need that much but by the time you pay shipping on the MDF doors it's pretty comp. in price. I stain the doors with Min-Wax golden oak stain. I you change them all out no stain lightens things up a bit. Also by using oak you can use use oak lumber to make shelves and trim pieces that match.

We've got wood from an oak tree that came down in our yard awaiting staining down in the garage. ALL the wood pieces, door and drawer fronts and tables, are going to be replaced with oak from the tree that stood where the Scamp now sites.

Lipstick on a Pig?

In my mind, putting a nice, real-wood veneer over the stock MDF door is a lipstick-on-a-pig thing. If I just wanted an quick and easy spruce-up, I'd use paint. If I wanted an upscale, natural-wood look I'd make new doors from a cabinet-grade, hardwood-veneer plywood.

I was debating somewhat the same thing recently and Google-searched "Scamp cabinet doors" on this site. There are some creative people and great ideas floating around this forum!

Post #3 in this thread might be what you are after, and looks pretty simple:

Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will look better that the stock faux-woodgrain!

I was able to replace all the cabinet doors, closet door and storage door with one 4x8 sheet of 1/2" birch plywood. A nice light stain and some sealer and they look pretty good.

I put laminate on all of our doors right over the cheesy fake wood. Tons of options out there if you go that route.
