Removing Trillium gaucho

I would like to remove the goucho. The goucho sits on and is glued to a shelf an inch or inch and a half wide. My sense is that the shelf itself adds considerable rigidity. I was thinking about cutting the goucho just where it meets the shelf leaving the small section of goucho and the adhesive. I have seen Trillium's with the center of the goucho missing and I don't think the vertical panel or horizontal panel with the wooden covers add much to the rigidity. Some of you have removed your goucho and I wonder if you have any suggestions. Thanks

Doug, Could you please post pictures of the shelf that you refer to?

As to removing the gaucho, Trillium made a front bathroom model. No gaucho at all. They did however put in two walls that formed something like a bulkhead. Also, as you mentioned, a front dinette version that had a gap in the gaucho.

The shelf is easy to see on the outside, but not easy to see on the inside. The picture through the door crack shows it best.
I was thinking of adding a decorative wooden trim which might provide some rigidity.

Ah. This is a feature that the front side of the gaucho sits on, the dinette seats sit on a similar "shelf". I don't think you need to add anything. As far as I know, the gaucho adds little to the structure to a Trillium. That said, some Trillliums suffer from a sag of the front curb side corner. The gaucho may help hold it up, but since there are frequently two doors in the front of the gaucho, I don't see it providing much support.

What do you plan to put there?

I assume you have a large opening into your kitchen now.
