Replacing Bargman L-300 with new Trimark lock on a Trillium

Hello everyone. Wanted to make a posting regarding our new Trimark door lock which we found on E-Bay to replace the Bargman L-300 on Trillium trailers. We actually didn't order it thru E-Bay but rather called Trimark Industries and just ordered it thru them. It came to 140 something dollars which I thought was better than buying a used Bargman that could and would just fail again. We bought our trailer at the end of last summer and quickly found out when we got it home that we couldn't lock it from the inside. Also a few different keys on our keychain unlocked it! Needless to say it was on our top priority list of repairs to our new old trailer.

It took about 40 mins to install. You need a Dremmel to modify the door a little but it's not that big of a deal. Works and looks great, highly recommend this to anyone with a Trillium in need of a new door lock.

Hi Tugger and welcome to the forum. Looks like a good option. What is the Trimark model number, I am sure folks will be interested. Thanks for sharing. Raz

Trimark 1-800-431-8616

The item number is 31158-01-K

or ask for the kit to replace the Bargman L-300. Comes with a striker plate too that I did not have to use.

Cheers

Installed a Trimark today

Thanks, Tugger! I took your info and ordered a Trimark as my "300" quit locking...it would close on the latch but the lock setting could be jiggled back to the unlocked setting.
Trimark mailed me the one you showed...took seven days to Ontario Canada via USP / Canada Post
Cost was about $175
Installation was quite easy. I Dremelled off a little bit of the end of the raised panel on which the belly band sits. Added a wood block below the new lock (a dab of epoxy too ) to keep it lined up with the existing latch opening.
Was able to use the original striker plate.
A brief moment of panic ensued when I closed and locked the door and the key would not turn back to unlocked position (thinks: what the bleep have I done and will I ever get back inside!!!) but some persuasion with the key in a vise-grip got the lock to operate...turns out that I was a bit over-zealous in tightening the two halves of the lock panels together...I backed off the torx screws a bit and all works well.
I REALLY needed the lock as we travel south for three months and our passports, computer, cash-stash, and guitar are often secured (or so we thought :-0 ) in the trailer when we take day trips.
Thanks for the source info
I did take a smidge more than your 40 minutes to install...but The Road Toad is once again secure!
Alistair & Inge - back from the south and still unpacking.

Glad to hear that it worked for you Alistair ! I also over tightened the 3 screws and the exact same thing happened to me. Was a little worried myself but like you say all I had to do was back the screws off a tad. Should have mentioned that in the original post I suppose It is nice to have a lock that you can go on day trips and trust that the contents are secure inside. Definitely worth the money and minor dremmel work to install. Now trim ark just has to make a replacement for the L-400 and I'm sure a lot of people would be happy!

Again, thanks, Tugger. I was impressed with Trimark's service...and their lock is as solid as wall safe! No more hooking up my bungee elastic "safety chain" from the inside door post to the door handle!

Doug, You have a Bargman L-400, not the L-300. Totally different locks.

do you feel the trimark is more "secure" than the bargman l300?

the L300 in my uhaul can be open with almost all the small keys i have in my key-set wich is something i dont like.

anyone ever done a conversion with something a little less expensive like a regular 40$ rv lock? i know it would be more work, but i have a hardtime paying 180$(thats the price for me shipping included to canada) for a simple door lock/handle

This is an old post/thread, so I don't really expect a response but....

Since the screws for the hinges are on the outside, a person that really wants to get in could just unscrew them. Does anyone have a solution for this?

If someone really wants to get in one of our trailers, all they need is a wrecking saw. If they took the screws out of the hinge, that would be preferred.
