If you're new to trailers, you may wonder what's the deal with the acorn nuts on the inside of Casitas. Are there really bolts? Maybe so on some trailers, but not as delivered from Casita. The acorn nuts is a good way to hide the rivet end.

Here's a sketch I found on the hard drive. Just in case. Just populatin' the Mod Board. You should probably push silicone into the hole as well as the outside of the rivet to keep it water resistant.

Any idea as to rivet/acorn size? I have a couple in our Scamp that have a rivet but no nut and I would like to replace.

Most of the "structural" rivets on the Casita are, I believe, 3/16". A 1/4x20 nut will just fit over the end of the rivet before it's set. The idea is that the rivet just clears inside the threads and then as you expand the rivet it "squishes" into the threads.

I say "structural" in the sense that the cabinets are hung with them and that's a relatively heavy load.

I'd check with the Scamp owners before you buy since there may be differences.

There was recently a long discussion re: rivets on Yahoo Scampers, including some folks who have built airplanes -- the consensus was that the best place to get rivets is from the egg manf -- Scamp, for example, will sell an entire rerivet kit including rivets in proper quantities and sizes, acorn nuts, plastic caps and bases -- One needs to specifiy whether it has ratfur or elephant skin inside.

Alternatively, one can just call Scamp, describe the rivet location and they will sell a small quantity.

There's a nice little page on this subject at Boler Life - Acorn Pop Rivet - I think by a FiberglassRV member (but I can't remember your name at the moment - sorry!).

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
