Kevin-
I noticed in the first picture (from the top) that there are screws sticking our horizontally. Are these attached to the hinge. Also, how did you attach the open/close mechanism (window crank?). I've got a new to me 16' Scamp with a 22 x 16 (or so) "Jenn Air Escape Vent" that has no cover. It looks like they are $70+ online and if I could make a clear one (or even smoked to block some light) for less, that'd be a bonus.

Thanks for posting this. I would have never thought to have tried to do it myself.

Todd

The screws sticking out horizontally are attached to the hinge. The open/close mechanism (window crank?) is attached like the original setup.

All the photobucket images are gone now. Sure would have loved to have seen them too.

Kevin's still around...maybe if he's still got the pics stored somewhere he'd repost 'em, directly to the site this time!

That funny. I just re-screen the same type escape hatch. I notice the ABS plastic cover on mine had a gap on the front. It let a wee bit of air escape and that was fine for ventilation. I sealed it a few days ago and now I have condensation around that area, so I suppose I'll peal off the weather stripping back to the original.

I've often though how I'd like a plexiglass panel there. I'd have to ditch the other cover to make I work though. Thanks for sharing. I'll the kit over.

Did you use butyl tape to seal it.

BTW Lexan suffers from UV and turns yellow after a while. It bike Acrylic might be better. How thick was the material?

My cheap plastic cover cracked and leaks in certain conditions like wind and rain. If I can't find a replacement, I'll need to make one of these. In the mean time I'll try Dicor again.
