By golly! I believe you're correct! There's lots of products out there. Easy to get this old painter brain confused!

Yeah, especially nowadays with all the low VOC and water based replacements for good old solvent bases. When I worked at a paint company (years ago) we made sure we kept 3 stain blocking primers in stock: KILZ oil based, BIN shellac sealer, and Bullseye 123 (water based). Between the 3 you had just about every use case covered.

ShaggyDoink I love that you are probably out camping this thing all summer instead of working your tail off on it These Kilz debaters bumped your thread up so I've blown some time seeing what you've done. Way Obsessive Dude!!! I love the Porsche brakes!!! I'm gonna have to do mine in red caliper paint too when I get to that point. Keep on Keepin On... You've won this battle.

I for one am glad you did because it bumped it up to the top. On threads any activity is good activity I think. Plus we'll be piling some email notifications into ShaggyDoink's inbox, prompting a posting of recent camping pics of this miracle makeover egg in action...

Grey Water Tank

Do you have a grey water tank -- or just the tanks under the sink?

What do you think about painting edges and both surfaces of the plywood with Flexseal Paint?

Shaggy, just to make sure I'm not getting lost. The smaller holes in your fiberglass shell bottom you filled with Bondo, but larger ones you patched with round pieces of fiberglass cut to specific size? If so, what was your criteria for deciding a hole was too big for Bondo and needed a solid patch? Thanks so much for this thread. I am reading the entire thing in 2019 as I begin my Casita restoration.

Was there a reason you ran the wiring on the wheel well rather than along the wall above the wheel well on the port side of your camper? Just curious....

Jonathan, how exactly did you clean the interior walls? Did you use a hand sander, electric sander?

Grace,

Jonathan has not logged into this forum for more than a year. He quit posting without saying why.

That is OK, people do move on, they finish projects, sell them, family needs change, health changes etc and some people don't feel like dealing with explanations or the reactions to their decisions so sometimes they just vanish.

Grace, I did a similar rebuild, and I used a pressure washer. But I was also planning on taking out the floor and lifting the FG off the frame.

NorCalMike also has a rebuild thread, as do I, though neither of us as posted lately

Grace, bondo is not good for any hole larger than about 1/4 inch or so. Fiberglass is the best. Epoxy resin is better than poly resin for patchwork because it adheres to old FG better. It sticks best even to old poly based fiberglass as used in our trailers. You can by jars of little confetti like strands of FG that once mixed with resin can be used in place of bondo.

Have you started a build thread yet? Please do. I, Eric and others will check in from time to time to answer questions.

Mike
