I have a tool and die guy who I bought a stick welder for yrs ago. Would you be willing to send me some close up shots and measurements? I know I can get him to make one for me.

Thank you for your responses. My 84 will be on the road int he spring.

This hitch was made by a guy who does body work and custom auto manufacturing by day. It bolts on with 8 bolts so it can easily be removed in case I ever want to go back to 5th wheel mode. I would make sure your "friend who you bought a stick welder for years ago" really knows how to make good welds, you don't want this thing letting go while on tow, it would probably destroy the camper at best and cause a major accident at worst.

Our dinette area is nearing completion. We have had lots of help from family along the way. New curtains thanks to mom, new dinette table thanks to step-dad, and new Denim cushion covers thanks to grandma.

Luke, what is the tongue weight, with the propane and batteries? What class hitch do you use?

I'm not sure of the tongue weight, I need to figure it out. So far I've only had to pull it an easy and flat 250 miles to our semi permanent winter location. I pulled it with a '96 V6 Tacoma with airbags installed in the back and aired up to about 70psi to level the ride. I'm using a stock class 3 factory tow hitch with a brake controller hooked up. It pulled just fine with no bad characteristics that might be associated with a really high tongue weight (I do know what that is like too ).

This spring I plan on towing it 1500 miles over some big mountains to get it to our summer location. I plan on going with empty tanks and with as much stuff loaded behind the axle as possible including 2 bikes on a hitch rack hanging off the back.

The interior looks very nice. That's a lot of work. As far as the hitch, I assume you did the mod because the fifth wheel wouldn't work with your Toyota?? I have to confess the weight that far back would be a concern. Especially the effects on steering. Let us know how it works out. Enjoy your "new" rig, Raz

Actually the 5th wheel hitch will fit fine on our Tacoma. The hitch adapter was fabricated by the previous owner who ran an auto body repair shop. We bought it with the bumper pull adapter and the 5th wheel hitch in case we want to go back to 5th wheel mode. The reason we decided to try the bumper pull adapter is it allows us to keep our camper shell on our Tacoma which is critical to our business, both while traveling and once we are at our destination. Our other option was to pull a smaller bumper pull trailer, but having a dedicated bed and dinette makes the 5th wheel much more attractive for full timing. I have an older but very well maintained Tacoma with new springs/shocks and airbags, and so far it has no problem pulling the Scamp.

Asking price?

Your trailer is beautiful. How much are you asking?
