I found these poles and had no idea what they were for and then a lightbulb lit up and yes they were open window holders for the front shield..

I have a similar set for my '77 Scamp. They look a bit home made and quite old. They're for the gravel guard as you guessed. I bought from the original owner and I was told that was what they are. Good guess on your part. Yea for beer!

Mine are a little longer than yours (hold the rock guard a little higher). I made them per instructions from forum member Joy A. Wouldn't be without 'em...

Mine are also long. They clip onto the belly band and rock shield. Made from 3/4 or 1/2 inch white plastic pipe.

I don't believe the factory provides any kind of 'prop' to utilize the rock guard as a sun shade or awning. Joy A & perhaps other forum members devised and posted instructions (& pix) that I used as a guide when constructing mine. They work great & tho the 'guard' may rattle a little in a stiff breeze, mine are very sturdy & assemble quickly once parked.

I am not new here and let me tell you... this was darn heard to search. In part because you are replying to a post from 2013.

But what I found is this thread:

http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ver-24596.html

it references Joy A's off-site description of the front window mod but it seems that is gone.

Still there is much that might be a help in the thread, and there are many similar things done by others that might be found with some skillful searching. I myself have rigged a pole and bungee cords that lets me open the front window cover half way, its just that mine does not like high winds.

Good luck.

Anita, I'm not certain Joy ever posted her information here. But I did find a thread where someone posted pictures following her information. I hope this helps: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...html#post39316

Now Donna.. its not fair to link to a single post in the same thread that I had listed 22 minutes earlier! But good search, and I have to acknowledge that you were a participant in that old thread. So it seems that Joys details are on a website that is gone now, still the fiberglassrv.com thread (and some similar ones) still has description of this popular modification.

PS... this kinda disproves the popular belief that once something goes online, it lives forever.. I guess that only applies to things that one wishes one had never posted

What can I say? Better to post the same info twice, than not at all...
Yahoo Scampers still exists, I'm a member. URLs break sometimes and that group's archives are nearly impossible to search...

I printed a hard copy of Joy A's Instructions!

I got my 1985 Scamp 13 in 2010 and I printed a hard copy of Joy A's instructions! I made a set for my gravel guard and now the new owner is posting photos and people are asking her how she made them! She said the previous owner made them so now I am searching my computer and the group for the instructions online! Now it sounds like I just have to find the hard copy!

To be continued...

UPDATE FROM A MINUTE AGO! I found Joy's post here! Check out this thread! Gordon and Donna Dee, the old Yahoo link failed to open but the instructions live on!
