Screen Door Opener

On my older 2002 Casita, when using the screen door, you had to slide a panel back to access the screen door latch. I took a piece of wire coat hanger and now use it to open the screen door from the inside.

1. Drill two 7/64 holes, one in the top of the screen door panel as shown and one in the latch handle also as shown.

2. Cut the wire coat hanger to 18" inserting one end in the top hole and then make a 90 degree angle at the bottom and insert into the hole you made in the latch handle. Then crimp the end up to make sure it stays in the latch handle.

3. At the very top, trim the wire to about 1 inch showing and put a tiny curly que in the end for your finger to press down on.

4. Cut a small notch in the slider door, to clear the hanger wire you installed.

Now you can use this wire to open the screen door without opening the sliding panel.

That's a good mod. I never understood why the manufacturer couldn't make something like this. It is solo annoying to slide that sucker open and then it always gets left open!

I installed one of these gizmos which seems to work pretty well. Just "bump" it to release the screen door latch without having to open the slider.

Screen Door Opener

Some others have done a different "mod" where they've applied small magnets and ferrous steel disks to their screen door/frame in lieu of the standard handle and striker catch. All they have to do is push against it to have it open outward or just pull on it from the outside to get in. No latch to release, just magnetic holders.
