Sigh, mine are also boring. I'm considering throw pillows and brighter curtain material to make up for that "boring" look. I figure that would be easier and cheaper than replacing the cushion fabric... I don't sew. YMMV

We are here at FunFest. We went on the cruise last night (only Eurovan. People taking pix ignored us. Hey, we were unique!). There was an adorable pink Beetle (old version) pulling a matching pink teardrop. I will post pix later. Clearly, it was a teardrop for looks, not use. Just unused pillows inside.

Sorry the Eurovan didn't get any attention from the airsnobs
I'm sure the teardrop sheds a tear for a life not lived
I saw a pink faux-splitwindow beetle (I think an early 60s with a few 51-52 transplants) pulling a pink teardrop on Gotland, Sweden..will have to dig out the pic.
Hope you had a great time at the show!

I was just thinking.. I have two 12v fantastic vent fans (the free-standing kind)- I won one as a doorprize at a Tin Can Tourists meet in NC and the other at the Vintage Trailer jam in Saratoga Springs. Since I really don't use both as portables, does anyone have any suggestions for where to mount one permanently in the Scamp? I would take it out of the plastic box.. Or the best place to use one as is to cool it down?

Here's what the company says about them- • Low Sound Levels
• Multi-Purpose
• Low Amp Draw 1.2-2.6
• 12 Volt Plug with 5' Cord
• 110 Volt operation with a
4 amp Converter (not provided)
• High Air Velocity-Like a
constant 10 mph Breeze

Thanks! I think the project would be much less daunting\time consuming without the addition of the piping on the edges. I'd say it easily doubles the amount of work involved in the whole thing, at least as far as this fabric is concerned. would be much easier with an allover pattern, or even stripes. the big squares actually makes cutting out pieces, and lining things up much more complicated. heh.

Anyway. got the other base dinette cushion done and all the pieces of the top ones cut out. having a terrible day sewing though. keep breaking needles for some reason and i'm fresh out, now. guess that means a trip to the fabric store tomorrow.

Towing with VW

Hello,

Great post! I love seeing the renovation photos.

Have you towed with your VW? I have a VW Golf TDI and am looking for a small camper it will tow. I was wondering how your VW tows.

Thanks,
Teri

Thanks We've only towed the Scamp about 5 hours total so far but no complaints, It seems to pull very straight and steady. I pulled my Eriba Puck cross country a couple times as well as in the mountains and down from Massachusetts. I think a diesel is definitely a better choice for mountain grades in the long run but the 2.0 has held its own. The Puck did seem to sway more than the Scamp in the wake of tractor trailers. I suspect that's a comment on the Puck's low weight/ similar side area. I towed a homebuilt teardrop (probably under 500lbs) and it was unaffected by the semis.

Icebox repairs:

So, there were lots of pre-existing cracks around the hinges and screw holes.
Someone decided to hold the whole thing together with a massive mass of hot glue.
We got all of that outta there. Then put in a piece of aluminum as reinforcing,
epoxy-plastic-welder holding it in place.

Then started epoxy-plastic-welding the pieces into place.

Had to drill for the thicker areas around the holes.

Last piece in, and hole from missing piece filled in with epoxy

Sanded down. looks pretty nasty still because the epoxy is translucent.

Hmm. guess it still needs a bit more sanding, but looks much better.

We showed our Uhaul with our Eurovan today at the FunFest. A few lookers, but Sunday is a really slow day.

We did have a new Beetle in our campground pulling a popup. Beetle had a sign in the window that it had 375,000 miles on it.

Sorry, I don't know for sure. I don't think it sounded like a diesel.

Pix later when downloaded. We only took pix of the old pink Beetle with the teardrop yesterday, the cruise, and our setup today. We have lots of pix of VWs from past years, many of which come year after year.

We bought a child's new Beetle electric car at the swap meet that Kevin is planning to try ot match to my new Beetle convertible for our granddaughter to use when she visits and for us to use when showing the car.

The electric beetle sounds like a fun project! Is it a ride-on/power wheels or an RC car? There aren't a whole lot of 2.0s around over 300k- that would be pretty cool! No rush on photos

Happy Scamper

OK, who is the cartoonist? What an adorable picture! Send it to these folks for your tire cover: Tire Cover Art

As requested, pix of the VW show. We only took pix of the pink beetle towing the teardrop and our setup. I don't know if the pink one got a ribbon. We did not. I will post our setup in the next posting. We also took a picture of a cute tent.

Considering you won't use it all the time, I don't see any reason to mount it permanently. Freestanding allows you to use it outside, in your vehicle or for your pets if you have them.

If you flip out the clips by the handle it will hang from the upper lip of the window. That is how it works on our jalousie. Then if you take a piece of plastic conduit (a little wider than your rear side window) and cut two slots in it, to fit the lower legs it will hold the fan off your window.

If it does not hang from yours, I'd try to find a way to hang it from your new large upper vent. The fan and conduit will store behind the front bunk.

Thanks Roy! The ones I have don't have clips on top (or they are in a box somewhere) but they do have the holes through the base of the handle so easy enough to make some wire hooks to the window. The feet seem like they'll prop it away from the window ok but the pvc pipe may be better depending on how much noise the feet make against the glass/wall. I guess the only reason I was thinking about permanent mounting was so that it would be a little less likely to get tripped over, hit, otherwise damaged - good point about using it outside!

Cindy- thanks for the great pictures- the pink bug is pretty cool The Eurovan and Uhaul look awesome! I actually saw two Westy Vanagons (one air, one water) and a white Eurovan westy this morning- the tourists are back in Colonial Williamsburg

The cartoons are mine Neat idea about the spare tire cover! I'll see if I can draw one that would be good in that size.
I put a few non-Senga specific cartoons here:

Here's one more- just doodles from while I was away this weekend that I colored last night

Did a bit of removal also. An old owner got "creative" when the floor went to pot. Delightful holes, aren't they.

They took a sheet of 3/4" OSB, covered it in carpet, and just laid it in there on top of it as is. it's getting yucky now too.

We know the owners of the red one with white\yellow flames, the baseball bug, and the orange color concept one on the left, if you happened to see those.
